Going to look at this tomorrow.

Ok, here is the story......I am military and had orders to move to Italy. So in preperation I sold my 77 F150 4x4 I had been working on. It was close to being done all it needed was paint. I was upset but it had to be done. I get an email a week later informing me that I am no longer moving to Italy! Talk about getting mad!! So my wife, being the great woman she is starting looking for another truck for me. We found this one and it looks pretty nice from the pics he sent me. I am going to look at it tomorrow, I am going to try and see if I can work him down on the price a little. The outside is really nice and he said there is no rust. The interior needs some work done to it but that isn't going to be hard. I normally go for more of a project but this one is mostly done so it will save me in the long run. What do you guys think?

Only thing that worries me is the long clutch peddle. If he took a shortcut and didn't find the correct matching one then I would look closely for other odd short-cuts to bring the price down.

One being the wiring with all those switches added. Make sure all the regular stuff, turn/ brake lights and horn work correctly; lights on and off. Fuel gauge on both tanks, ect.

Did he pre-warm the truck or do you get to cold start it.....

Good luck with your search! And with staying home!

He has a few things bought from a parts store type accessory pbbbt. Six shooter shifter **** O'riellys 15 smackers. Pedal covers 20 bucks what a hunk of junk....

Nah looks pretty straight but I agree check and see where corners were cut look at the wiring harnesses you can see. Obviously there will be htings wrong with it but hey thats the cards we are dealt.

Thanks guys, yeah it does have a few things on it that I am going to take off. Like half of the lights! The wiring is one of my big things to look at once I get there. I will check out the clutch too, he said it drives good. I really hope it does cause I have to drive it back 3 hours to my house. I know there is always something these trucks need, but that is the fun of it all!

Well I am going to hold off to go look at it till I get my tax return back. A 3 hour drive one way just to look and not buy is a waste of gas. So for now I am trying to get more pics and info. I will see what he says about the clutch.

Looks to me like the brake pedal is really low, almost like it is at the same height as the gas pedal. Might be a brake issue to check out, especially when driving it 3 hours home....

The truck looks nice and has lots of potential. Just looking around on eBay I found some others. Looks like one needs work and the camper special looks pretty good. There are a few more on eBay so you can look around. Congrats on staying stateside!

if the body is good and no major mechanical issues i would try to get him down a little. 45 is still pretty good money for a 77.

I'm going to see if I can get him down to 4 for it. I should have my money in a week and he is going to hold the truck for me till then. Seems like a good guy so far.

Those ones on ebay are nice but I'm trying to stay close to me, I'll have to look around.

I'll confess up front I'm pretty picky...

But for me anyway there's a lot to pick at with this truck.

Blue exterior and looks like the inside is black. What was the original color? To do a color change properly is a great deal of work. Very few people go to the time, trouble and expense to do it right. If it's not done right it's a major negative for me...

Wiring is a "biggy". The switches below the dash are a red flag of possible problems. If some "electrical genius" has had his way with the truck you could be spending a significant amount of time straightening out his handiwork...

The dash shows a switch for two fuel tanks. A 1979 should have doors accessing the fuel fillers. I see one gas cap in front (not original) and can't tell in the back...

Has tilt column for automatic transmission but has a 4-speed. So which was added?

It just strikes me that there's a whole lot of stuff that's half-a**ed about it.

Personally, I'd steer clear of this one.

I'm partial to rust free vehicles, and I encourage people to buy from the desert southwest.

Here's one that looks way better to me (no affiliation):
~~~~1979 FORD F-250 4x4~~~
Here's another, though not in the southwest (I'm partial to black)(no affiliation):
1979 Ford F 250, 400 engine
My point is there are nicer trucks out there for similar money...
I see lots of good. The two things that would concern me:
1)It has a goosneck hitch in bed=was possibly used/abused for heavy duty towing. I'd give the trans a thorough drive test in every speed/gear possible, to look for any slippage.
2)Nice lift and big tires=did he put the correct speedo cable adapter at the end of the speedo cable in the trans? Bring a GPS with you to compare the dash speedometer speed to the GPS speed.
The other things i would look over hard; under carriage sheet metal conditions, is the tailgate one of those cheap thin overseas made pieces of junk-like what i had on mine for less than 2 yrs before it bent and wore out, and that rear bumper looks odd=is that a late '80s bumper? Is it mounted properly to the frame?
