Towing/Mileage improvements

I know this has been discussed and discussed before, but let me ask it this way. I have a F350 DRW and tow heavy. I weigh about 19500 ready for a trip. I have the 4.30 axle. On a recent trip down thru W. Va and mountains of Va., I got anywhere from 5.5 to 8.1 MPG. On some of the hills, it took everything it had to run at 45MPH and the tach was at 4200RPM. On lesser hills it was easier to keep it at 55MPH or so and maybe 3500RPM. I dont want to get into chips and headers. I have replaced the stock air filter with a drop in K&N. Now if I do something to the exhaust system, will that help? I dont want it for noise or anything like that. I just want to get better power and maybe better mileage.

More power and better mileage normally don't go together. You get one or the other, IMHO. I believe I would opt for headers or an improved "Y" pipe and free flow exhaust....or a combination. A larger throttle body would be next. You can put a chip in, but that means premium gas. $$$$$$ Let us know what you decide. BTW, Borla makes a header for the V10 and WELCOME!!!! :-
