EXHAUST FLUID FAULT

Just wanted to say hi to all. I have had my truck for a month now and love it. I traded my 2002 7.3l F-250 with 167k super crew in for this one. I loved my old truck but the wife said we needed a business write off and look for a new truck. So guess what I bought. My 2012 F-250 Sterling gray, 4 X 4 FX4 3.55, Black leather seats, man step nav. system just gave me a exhaust fluid fault at 960 miles. The next morning same fault. Drove 5 miles and shut off engine and went on the job site for not more than 10 min. Started back up and message was gone. My question is how long will it take for the lite to come back on? Should I take it in and have it looked at? Will a code be stored or will it be a waste of my time to take it in? I was going to add some pics but no can do. It seems that this 6.7L forum is like a bunch of brothers getting together and looking out for each other.

When you say "exhaust fluid fault", I'm not sure what you mean. Is it an error code or the 800 miles to empty message? If the fluid is just low, put a box of DEF in and that will take care of it.

Check the level of the DEF. If it's OK, then you have a visit to the dealer to make. ;(

Will it have a code stored? I don't want to take it to the dealer and have them tell me no problem found. When I checked the fluid on the dash it came up OK

It is quite possible it is just a nox sensor.

EXHAUST FLUID SYSTEM FAULT!!!!

I just dropped my truck off at the dealer for the 2nd time in 2 weeks for the (In 50 miles, Speed Limited to 50 mph...Exhaust Fluid System Fault). I don't know how to post a picture of it on here or I would. I have 3500 miles on my 2012 F-250. I have no clue to what they did the first time to fix the problem. Picked it up right at close and reading the invoice is like trying to read chinese to me. But it happened again today so here I am again waiting......I have read all the posts on here about this topic and have not read one about what is causing this problem on our NEW trucks. I know for a fact that my fluid is not low. I have been told that on average, fluid is added each oil change. So then I ask ford what their recommened oil change is and they say 5000-7000 miles. So i figure I should not even get the first "warning" until atleast 4500 miles. Basically I'm just ticked off and venting on this forum...How in the world am I supposed to have peace of mind while driving my truck out to bfe knowing in the back of my mind this dang message could pop up again and I'm sol. Someone asked if they could pull the code even after the fault message goes away and the answer is yes. Both times I have been a mile from the dealership and the message goes away, lol, but they have been able to pull up the fault code anyways. My dealership is a big one and they sale a lot of trucks, and this is the first time they have had this problem like I'm having. I told them about this forum and how other people are having this problem and they just shrug me off ever time I tell them. Any body out there that has had this message know what the issue is????? P.S. the truck is amazing and a beast, this is the only problem I have had besides some idiot at the factory putting the kingranch emblem on crooked, then my dealership ordering a new one only to put it on crooked again! lol. Sorry for the novel, just ticked off right now. Thanks for any insight

I got the same message at about the same mileage, then it cleared. Took the truck back where I got it from, they pulled a code, and were kind enough to grease the interior and scratch up the seats for me. Then they said nothing was wrong. 1000 miles later, I got the message again, and got the joy of driving 50 mph when traffic was moving 80. Eventually got the idle on restart message and left it at a different dealership.

Four days later, I got it back with a new NOX sensor. It didn't take long to fix it, but they said they've had so many failures that Ford is having a hard time keeping up.

I talked with ford dealer and he had told me that he has not had any problems with the 6.7l. I told him that's funny because it is all over the internet. I got silence and when I said you still there he replied just bring it in. I think some one don't like to be told he is wrong. I will be taking it in and will let you all know what the out come is.

There should be a TSB issued on the NOX sensor I would think

I wish I had remembered to ask about that. The tech left me a message on Monday about a TSB on them, but I was so mad when I finally got in on Thursday that I had forgotten all about it. Maybe someone here knows?

I had this happen this morning in northern New York. It was 8 degrees Fahrenheit. 4:30am, heading back to jersey - warning said in 50 miles, it would begin limiting speed to 50. I was concerned it would make for a bad day, and maybe get worse. After 24 miles, the fault cleared and all was back to normal.

I remember reading that if the DEF freezes, this can occur. I really suspect this was the case for me today, but not sure yet.

When was the last time you filled it? Just curious if it got overfilled where there is no heater.

Update

My truck has been at the dealership for almost 2 weeks. 2nd time its been there for this problem. I am in Texas so freezing def is not an issue nor is low def since I only have 3500 miles on my truck. They can't figure out what the problem is and said they have to have a Ford engineer come down to look at my truck. The engineer told them over the phone that he thinks its some type of programming issue but Ford currently does not have a fix for this problem yet. Now they are telling me to call Ford and start a case issue with my truck. They told me in the mean time I could pick up my truck and keep driving it until Ford has a programming fix. I told them that made no sense because its just a matter of time that it happens again and I could possibly be stranded in the middle of no where in idle mode. They agree that wouldn't be a good idea. So I will call Ford tomorrow and start a case and go from there. Seems like Ford would have to give me a new truck if they can't fix the "new" one that I have.
