Another update. I have about 600 miles on the truck since I got the warning and cleared it (see my earlier posts in this thread). I have only regened twice since then that I am aware of and everything is cool. I am glad I did not take it in!

Update again. At 1867 miles I am driving home from work. I get speed limited to 50 mph on restart message along with exhaust fluid fault. Thought I was home free but I guess it's time to see the dealer.

Anybody know a competent dealer in the east bay area near Livermore, CA that they recommend I take my truck to? I hate having other people working on my vehicles but I don't see that I have a choice here.

My 2012 F-350 (built 05/17/2012) gave two Exhaust Fluid System Fault warnings this month. Both times the warning went away on its own within 10 minutes (first time after engine turned off, the second while parked and idling).

Both times there was no code in the computer showing a fault code. The first time the waring was Speed Limited to 50mph in 80 miles. The second time the warning was Speed Limited to 50 mph (yep, that part worked right away).

I took pics of the dash the second time and gave them to the dealer today showing both the fault and that DEF level was OK. I told him to find out what the fix is and let me know but there's no point leaving the truck with him today. Alternatively, I asked for the procedure to bypass the system (he laughed at that .

Everything I've read about this problem indicates there's no one solution and Ford is taking a shotgun approach to the solution sometimes replacing the NOx sensor, clear computer and reinstall software, replacing DEF sensor, or combinations.

A couple of questions:
- Does anyone who had this problem with a 2012 have a specific solution that worked for them?
- If I get stuck in the 50mph or idle mode does anyone know a way around the issue without begin towed to the dealer?

Thanks!

Update 8/1 today the Dealer "Ran IDS test-code P201A / Retrain and calibrate PCM per TSB 12-06-05". Hopefully that fixes the problem.

JeffG5,

Please update us as to whether or not this software update fixes your problem and also if you notice any changes to the operation of the truck.

At around 1000 miles on the odometer, I had one exhaust fluid system fault that warned me that I would be limited to 50mph in 50 miles. It cleared within 10 miles or so of driving. I drove the truck for quite a while and then at around 1800 miles or so I had a warning that came up that I would be limited to 50mph at the next restart. After 2 restarts it did indeed limit me to 50mph but once again it cleared after about 5 miles of driving.

Both times I had planned to take the truck in to be repaired but the problems cleared up before I could. If this TSB is the cure, I plan to bring it down and have it applied to my truck as well. Good luck to you and I hope your truck is now 100%!

All good for me after TSB 12-6-5 and its been a good 800 miles now. I haven't noticed any other changes to the truck that I could pinpoint.

Same here. Had a DEF system fault with codes P2200 and P204f. Dealer performed TSB 12-06-05. Drove the truck nearly 400 miles today, with just a single regen after driving through city traffic. I have a CTS Insight, so I was watching the soot count. Got up to 1.60 after the regen level of 1.22, but once I hit the freeway driving 75 to 80 MPH into a good headwind, the soot count started dropping a bit, but for the most part held steady at around 1.58. It's at 2.38 now after about 30 miles of normal commute speeds. Mileage is the same too. About 18.4 average, which is where it's been for me for about a month now (truck has 8000 miles on it).

Nothing negative to report so far.

Was driving home from work today and got "engine idled soon" along with "speed limited to 50mph". Got home and it cleared as I pulled up. All three times I have thrown codes due to the exhaust fluid fault, it has been on a friday after work and it has cleared within a few miles WTF?

Got my truck in to the shop today and they determined that TSB 12-06-05 was the answer to my problem. I now have the software update. BTW, they told me that P204F was the code that was retrieved. Noticed on the way home that the Exhaust system went through a cleaning cycle. Hope this fixes it, I was afraid to take it out of town!

Great news, great mileage towing. I get 9.5 towing 46 foot goose neck 17,000lbs.

650 miles on my 2012 F350, 6.7L and got the DEF speed reduced error message. Message went away with 34 miles left to 50mph limit.

Question? Has anyone received this error code and then not received a DEF error code again? Or is it inevitable?

I am supposed to leave on Tuesday, towing my 12,000 toy hauler and because of the Labor Day holiday, I won't be able to get it into a dealership to have it checked out. Don't feel like getting stuck in the middle of nowhere driving 50mph or in limp mode either. Am I screwed or what?

I just had the P2200 Exhaust Fluid Fault disappearing code. Speed was to be limited to 50 in 50 and cleared itself with 8 miles to go. Will it store the code and would the dealer reflash without a code? I don't know much about the dealers service techs as my last truck was an 06 150 with no problems. I did print out the IDS procedure to take along with me. Good or bad idea?? Don't want to seem like a know it all but don't want repeat trips to the dealer either. Truck is a 12 CC 4x4 with 2676miles and is AWESOME!!!!!!

Hard to know if it's "inevitable" but I'd give you odds if it happens once it'll happen again. Good news is what I've read is that most trucks seem to clear the error in 5-30 miles or with shutdown/restart so you may not experience an extended problem. I suggest you search for Ford dealers along your route and make note of the update that seems to have fixed the other 2012s (I'm now over 1,000 miles since the update with no further problems). If you do get stuck maybe they can update the computer when they get to you. Good luck on the trip.
