Eliminating self-adjusters on Dana 70 rear?
My '65 F-350 dually has a slightly later model Dana 70 underneath it that originally had emergency brake cables. They were cut off by the junkyard and I just left the stumps since my truck has the driveshaft hand-brake anyway. It's been 10 years so I don't remember if I left the parking brake levers in place or not. Now the rear brakes are out of adjustment and I'll have to pull the axles and drums to get in there anyway and see what's going on.
I have found that self-adjusting brakes never do so for very long... possibly because most of us don't drive backwards at 10-15 mph and slam on the brakes on a regular basis, and the screw threads freeze up... Anyway, I want to eliminate the self-adjusters and install simple manual adjusters with the coil spring that keeps the star wheel from rotating by itself. Like the ones on the front drums.
I've seen references on other boards to a kit that contains the parts, but can't come up with anything on Google. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
thanks.

And, not only that, but the self adjuster cable is notorious for snapping. The cable guide comes loose, floats around inside the brake drum. If it gets between the shoe and drum...guess what happens when you step on the brake?

No NAPA store anywhere near my small town... can't find anything on the napaonline.com website. Any other thoughts? Could I use the (manual) adjuster and spring from an earlier Dana 70, or other rear if the dimensions are right?

I never have problems with the self adjusters. Course I have always greased the threads and parts related to ihe adjuster. Every so often, I do back up and slam on the brakes. I know how they work since I've be working on them for more yrs than I wish to remember - but I also realize most do not know this system even exists since most don't work on their own vehicles. Maybe I've just been one of the lucky ones. WAIT, that can't be true or I would be rich.
