DMV denied our special plate

Folks, need your opinions on this. We applied for a special plate for our fifthwheel travel trailer. Here is the plate we applied for:

LBS INN

Our last name is Pounds, and we intended this as a play on LBS for our name, and INN for the home away from home.

Got a letter today that our plate was denied. No specific reason given, but they explain that common reasons are, "any combination of letters and numbers that may be considered offensive, which could be misleading, or in conflict with any existing license plate series issued."

So what am I missing? Is there another offensive meaning behind those letters? Some other reason? I thought this would be a slam dunk.

They have an appeal process, and I am debating whether I care enough to bother. Your opinions might help me decide.

Check Urban Dictionary. There's an offensive definition for anything there, LBS & INN included. Though without their being specific as to their reason for denial, it's hard to say if that was why.

I think that was a nice, creative choice for your plate. I'd appeal it, if for no other reason than to be a pain in the backside.

Hello,
I get it. I think you should continue to complain if it is what you want. (DMV does not need any more money) but if it is what you want go for it.

I was looking at the plate LBS INN and I could not figure out what would be offensive about it. I asked my old lady to look at it and see if she could come up with something. Well she did kinda, I can see it, but I think you still can get the plate if you want it.

LBS INN
LESBIAN

I dont know. Thats what we could think of as to why they denied you the plate.

I think you could. I think you have to go in person to the DMV. Show them your last name get a supervisor to look at it.

Sort of off the topic, but are 5'ers eligible for the "permanent trailer" tag? If so, do you still have to pay yearly for the personalized plate?

I do not know about the permanent placard for sure, but given the weight, I would say no. (DMV, State needs money). Yes on the yearly payment for the personalized plate.

I think the permanent plate can only be on low value trailers. When the annual bill gets so low they don't want to mail the renewals and stickers. Not positive on that.

This is what I found.

Bill,
I'd fight it.

What amazes me is that they'd turn anything down these days considering the financial state the state is in.

Only if dyslexic. LSB INN = LESBIAN (Although, after a couple beer's I have been known to pronounce it "LEBSIAN".)

I think I know what their angle is, but can't think of a delicate way to explain it.

I agree, I would definitely appeal it, pointing out "LBS" in relationship you your actual name. That's too great a plate for you guy's to not put up a bit of a fight for.
