Ford Cummins tach ring

Hey all,

I am putting a 1996 Cummings 12v in a 2007 Superduty and I have a couple questions about the tachometer sensor. If I was to modify my harmonic balancer with 58 notches could I use the pulse sensor curnrently on the Cummings engine. I am trying to avoid bolting a pulse ring on the front of the balancer.

you have determined that you need 58 notches the dodge sensor is really simple

Ohh yea I also ground two notches in the balancer for a total of four.
I just got mine figured out today.. U can use the crank or cam sensor from the v10. i used the cam sensor off of the ford v10 and made a bracket to hold the sensor. i tied one sensor wire into the dark green wire that was one of the wires that originaly attached to the cam sensor. the other sensor wire goes to ground. pulled the inner fender well on the drivers side and located the pcm plug and unbolted it. located the #85 wire that is dark green and located the #48 wire that is white with a pink stripe and cut them both and tied them together on the harness side not the pcm side. plugged and bolted the pcm plug. cranked the truck and walla a working tach. this was on a 99 f250 with a v10

yes 58 notches for the sensor to pick up there are a few other things also to do but the machining is the best no bolt on ring

Excellent. Thanks!

There isn't much step-by step stuff for putting that engine in my truck. Almost have all the parts!
