Ams Oil???

What is everyone's thought on Ams Oil. I have a good friend that suggested it to me and even though he is a newly certified dealer I don't know much about it and wanted to get others opinions. I am thinking of putting Ams Oil in my rear end and possibly in the tranny. I have an 08 Expy Eddie Bauer. I am looking to do this to help with towing. Any suggestions or complaints?

I use it in my F150 because my FIL is a dealer and I get it for free. There claim is you can reduce change intervals and therefore your over all oil change costs are reduced even though you pay slightly more than other brands.

I have the Severe Gear in my front/rear diffs, have their ATF in my T-case and power steering pump. Mainly because I have an account with a Amsoil seller and the t-case, diffs, PS and etc do not hold a lot of oil and go fairly long between changes. I use their 2 stroke oils also and they work very well and burn clean.

I don't bother with the Amsoil in my engine and transmission because it is changed frequently. IMO its better to change the transmission fluid on regular basis than to spend big bucks on a boutique ATF and run it a long time. I don't feel that Amsoil will really make my engine last any longer and I don't do exteneded OCI so thats why I stick with a major brand synthetic oil for my engines.

You already have synthetic fluid in the differential from the Factory, so no need to replace it & as your in the flatlands, your not likely putting much towing stress on the differential anyway, so no need to change it imo.

More thoughts for pondering.

I have used Amsoil synthetics for years on the farm and trucks. I have never had an issue - that is why I keep using them. They were unique when they were one of the few that sold synthetics many years ago. I think today the synthetic market and offerings are large. Any good rated synthetic should serve you well.

my opinion is waste of money. regular old motor oil does just as good. i got 685,000 miles out of the 273 in my 66 W-300 power wagon before it needed rebuilding, and i currently have 493,000 miles on my 88 7.3 diesel, and 189,000 on my 02 diesel with plain old valvoline 15-40 all fleet.
