will a zf5 bolt into place of my mazda trans
So I checked out my clutch and it seems fine. Still the truck wont come out of first gear. Its a 92 5.0 with I guess. A Mazda unit under it. Will a zf tyranny swap in with out mods or Fab work? Or how much do these things usually run to have a shop rebuild. Em?

A lot
A ZF5 S 42/47 is a very good trans, but a rebuild WILL be costly most of the time. It's not done like other transmissions there is a lot of spec checking to do. They have a go/no go spec for most everything "Kits" are costly and not always needed, it is mostly check and replace as required. in the bottom back of the trans there are rectangular stamped plates (covers pto style) most of the time one or both have magnets on them... check BEFORE you buy for parts and debris stuck there...that tells a lot. If you get one ALWAYS use ONLY ATF as a lube oil ... ZF requirement nothing else I am bullheaded so in the Vegas heat 100deg.+ I add 1/2 cup of LUCAS oil stabilizer for summer heat ... so far it works (praying) as far as fit goes I don't have a clue. I'm sure some one will... good luck Dave

Yeah I'm pretty broke at the moment so I guess. Ill have to just get the Mazda rebuilt. When we did the slave a month ago there was a bunch of metal shavings up in the shaft input area. So anyone know what it could cost for a rebuild on the Mazda trany? I asked a buddy who's dad has a shop he told me 1500-3500 and my truck really isn't even worth that so I dunno

You should be able to pick up a JY trans for $300 or less. If you find one that doesn't have oil on it, go for it. There are approximately 8 **i*-tons of these lying around in yards nowadays, according to my highly unscientific survey.
Oil on the outside is not an issue in and of itself, but these boxes are very high-maintenance. If it had an oil leak that exponentially raises the chance PO ran it low on ATF and fried some stuff inside.

It will absolutely be cheaper.
Sorry to hear about your JY situation. Generally, it's advisable to call them and specifically say "Can you GET [insert part]", because junkyards routinely order parts from each other and have them shipped. You can also call places far from home and ask if they have it and will ship it to your local yard.
The way it works is that almost all junkyards have a daily delivery route to all the other junkyards in a 100-mile radius, with "drop" points in-between. They generally don't charge anything for such delivery.
Make some phone calls and see where you end up.

A local factory authorized rebuilder has M-5 rebuilt on the shelf for $850 + core, tax and shipping.
A couple local shops were qouting about $750 to do mine and needed from 2 days to a week.
I'd think twice about using a junk yard trans, chances are it's in the same shape as your troubled unit. I don't mind fixin - but I get cranky when I gotta re-fix-it

Obviously with a used box one is taking a chance, but it might be worth taking if he can get a clean one for $250, which I think he can. Depends on the budget. Hell, if it weren't for taking chances on parts I'd be walking and broke.

It looks like things have shifted towards a rebuild of the Mazda transmission, but I wanted to add to some earlier comments about a ZF swap.
The crossmember is the same for both 5-speeds. I used one from an F150 with a Mazda 5-speed when I swapped the ZF into my truck.
I used the floor insert or transmission tunnel cover, whatever you want to call it, from the same truck the crossmember came from, and the ZF shifter fits through fine.
