1986 460 heads replacement

i have to replace the heads on the 1986 F350 460, one cracked head and the other broken studs on the exhaust, which heads are the best for more hp and torque? the E6TE??
the smog stuff is all gone and I have headers already in place. It is my towing truck.

There are 5 different heads available according to the head company
E5TE
E6TE
D3VE
D4VE
D5VE
aLL PRICED ABOUT THE SAME $223 TO $250 EACH.

What would be the best head gaskets to get for them? copper o ring, std felpro?

Dr John

casting numbers

I went to the shop today to look for the casting numbers, there are no casting numbers in between the exhaust ports on my heads at all????

I have headers on the truck, and there were no numbers anywhere?

update

There are NO CASTING NUMBERS ON THE OUT SIDE OF MY HEADS at all, scrubbed the area with gunk and there is nothing ?

what next?

I only need one at the moment, the service station that broke the heads told me to go "f" my self and I am going to have to go to court to recoup my money.

would the E6TE be a safe bet I found a rebuilt one for $224?

some one said the 1987 FI heads did not have casting numbers on the out side, but why would my 1986 carbed motor have 1987 FI heads?

What head company are you going to? IMO, I don't think a stock head is going to get you any kind of boost in HP or Torque. These heads are extremely choked as far as the ports (both intake and exhaust) are concerned. If you truly want to get an improvement, you will have to get an aftermarket from Jegs or Summit racing and they are not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. If you want to get the truck up an running again, I would go with the E6TE heads.

There would be obvious modifications made to the heads to make it compatible. The injector ports would be plugged with either weld or epoxy... There would have been an adapter plate... Sometimes the casting numbers are placed on the deck (the cylinder side).

For your entertainment here is a list of cylinder heads from Summit racing for the BBF (AKA my dream list):

EFI heads have bolts in the centers of the valve covers.
I don't think there are that many choices.
D3VE were used right up until E7TE (fuel injected) heads.

there are no bolts through my valve covers , are the casting numbers under the valve covers?

I have D3VE A2A's on my '87

Don't know anything about '86 TE (truck, engine) 460 heads

The casting number is above the #2 and #7 exhaust ports on my heads.

The E6TE would be fine. Those are not EFI heads. Those heads would bolt right up to your block. The translation for that casting is like ArdWrkn said. 86 Truck Engine. Good to go with those heads.
