Turn the key on and not start.Pull the shifter to neutral and then fire the truck up to get you going.Alot of times you can work the shifter back and forth to make it un-lock.

Yes,there is a switch but cannot remember what it is called.

Also try moving the steering wheel left or right while trying to move shifter. Not sure bout the interlock.

it is definitely something with the brake pedal.

Maybe some adjustment is needed somewhere??

I dont know to look inside or outside of the truck? under the dash maybe?

Should be under the dash.I thought it was tied to the brake pedal arm up under the dash?

It's usually a bad brake light switch. The switch is on the brake pedal near the top of the pedal.

shifter locked in park

Ck your fuse for your dome light. I know this sounds crazy but I was having problems with my chimmer (key in the ignition still) and the dome light staying on so I removed the dome light fuse and then the truck would not shift out of park. It must disable something in the system. If I remember it is a 5 amp fuse.

Ok.. finally figured this one out...

it was the sensor on the brake pedal. The little thing with the 5 wire plug that attaches to the brake pedal has a little plastic piece that is on a spring. When the brake pedal is depressed, this little plastic piece is pressed in. Over time, this gets worn down by the metal piece on the brake pedal. (very bad design).

Anyway.. my fix was to clean all the grease off the sensor and apply 2 small strips of aluminum duct tape at the end of the plastic piece. This equals about 1/100'ths or 2/100'ths of an inch.

Just think.. the thickness of a piece of aluminum duct tape is very very thin.. and it only took 2 to fix the problem. I had put 4 layers of the duct tape on and it was too much and the brake lights were staying on.

Also to note... I had a problem with the brake lights not coming on which was directly related to this same sensor.

Thanks,
Andy

just curious. do these trucks use a similar set-up to the old style trucks (90's)? I know that the older trucks had issues with the ignition linkage and the shifter linkage in the steering columns breaking (had to fix alot of them) and I am wondering if ford carried over the design because if so then I should expect to see these start getting towed in for that as they get older.
