need help 89 bronco

in later Broncos they used the rear axle. The only means of measuring mechanical speed in the Bronco is through the transfer case. When they went to the rear axle it used a digital signal on a tone ring.
I think it would be easiest to swap in another transfer case? A junkyard might be able to swap one out for cheap since you have a working 92+ case? I dunno. It may even be possible to swap in a speedo drive gear, drill the hole and a whole bunch of other ridiculous custom work I guess.
this is where it is at in case you just don't see the location. I think I was expecting you to go, "Oh, okay, I found it" after you were told how it worked.. sorry it wasn't that easy. Here's still hoping you find that the hole has just been plugged or something!

you think the old VSS or speedo broke off inside? Mine did when I was removing it, luckily I had it out enough I was able to pull the rest through.
The stupid body of the thing is weak and breaks off at the plastic part, then they get stuck in there. The whole mechanism (VSS and speedo gear) is just pressed in. When and if you put the new one in, grease it or you'll break it putting it in or removing it, cover the body and put a light coating of transmission fluid on the gear.
