Autozone has a 3" mandrel bent tailpipe that's cheap. There's a thread about it over at FSB. I have it, and might try it out to see if it's a possible candidate. It's like $40 or so.
FYI,
Amazon has the 3" Magnaflow Stainless Steel universal tailpipe for $53.69 delivered.
Amazon.com: Magnaflow 15003 Universal Tailpipe: Automotive
Mine fit up great!

I've yet to read of anyone getting better than 50. Every bike I've owned has gotten gas mileage to reflect its engine size/hp, I've never seen weight factor in enough to notice something that couldve just been error in calculating. Perhaps apples and oranges, but the percentage variation in weight can be quite huge so should see some substantial difference.
I'm over on WristTwisters too. :P

In any case, a few weeks ago, I happened to be in the Honda dealer picking up some parts and was talking to their service manager, who also owns a 919. I'd passed on the recent fix for poor cold starts with the PC3 he had connected and we discussed the whole fueling issue. He said that he once stuck ten 919s on an exhaust gas analyzer and found that every single one of them was running rich in factory tune, especially before the intake flapper opened. The bike doesn't have an O2 sensor so it's really just fueling blind, no feedback. If you're doing that scheme, you err towards the rich side when you're building your map (I also play with MegaSquirt fuel injection systems) especially if it's a generic map not tailored to an individual specific example.

Exclamation 2 Wheels on my F250 ...NOT !!!

While I am fairly well set on my path I'm gonna take to get my 5.8w aimed in the direction of my HP/MPG goals to get my TRUCK doing what I want it to. Conanski has given me, I feel the best guide lines to reach my final goal. I am an old retired truck driver and should probably be driving a Power stroke.... but no $$$$ to buy one. with my 5.8 I NEVER turn it up over 3500 rpm ... spent 45+ years driving on TQ not HP. The cam was my biggest question then next was the "cat" ... "BEAR CATS answered that one for me. As far as my SD EFI that is my choice of fuel management. Thanks for the input ... Dave

I think you'll be fine. SD has limits but many people think you can't do anything with it. There are enough people here with good running SD setups. Do your homework, plan accordingly and you'll be fine. I think your plan is a good one.

Get an IDI, go back to driving with torque, not horsepower.

Just cuz I'm an old truck drive doesn't mean I don't have a clue what I want my ride to do. This is my FIRST FORD build, I rode in my first dragster at 9 years old and haven't stopped since... If it had tires (2 or 4 or more), tracks, props or turbines I had a hand in it sometime or another !!!And, yes Dave I do have a plan ... sometimes the letters change, I think I'm on plan D right now. Retirement limits my "investments" and a place to "work" also is a problem ...but these too can be overcome. Thanks for the encouragement " I love it when a plan comes together" ... Dave

btw just saying that HP dosent increase gas milage, its the torque that does, HP set ups rob fuel, but toque increses along with HP are good, and maybe better on mpgs too, high torque at the lower end is what you want for mpg, id suggest the good ole rv cams for your oldman set up, but ima run it too lol

I am aware of the relationship between HP-TQ and MPG ... The cam I will be using is a Crane 444232, and 1.7 rockers (1500-5000 rpm)recommended by Conanskl and I also checked with Crane and that was the one they liked for my 5.8 and the way I want it to work. The cam was the only big question I had other than the "cat". I got the final word on that last week. I'll be using the stock heads with some port cleaning, and with some smoothing/matching on the bottom of the intake.
By the way if I had a 5.0 I would have gone with a Comp Cam 35-255-5, range from 1000-4500 RPM.
I will change the diff gears (3:55 to 3:73's) AFTER I see how the motor works I like my MPH for the freeway but we do have some mountain driving here too. Good luck on your build too, mine should start in the fall AFTER I have all the parts here ... Take care !!! Dave
