Are you referring to the seatbelt latch itself or the electrical connector for either the belt minder or the pre-tensioner?
If the latch itself, then the best approach is probably to buy a new one, remove the driver's seat, and using a large Torx bit replace the assembly. The most cost-effective approach is probably to get a used latch from a salvage yard.
The more detail you can provide the forum regarding what you are trying to accomplish, the better the forum will be able to help.
I recently replaced the latch on my 94 explorer. After doing a lot of research I replaced the latch by removing the center console and adjusting both seats as necessary to provide access to the torx bolt attaching the latch to the driver's seat. I have a simple center console which does not attach to the dash. Other types of consoles may complicate the center console remove and install procedure. Instead of buying a used latch, I opted for a new latch from the local Ford Dealer. Might as well spend a bit extra for a new latch from Ford and end up with a proper replacement. The latch comes with a plug that connects into a circuit that is involved with the air bags. Disconnect the battery before you start!!!!
I replaced the latch on my '96 about a year ago. Called the dealer, they wanted $81 for a new one and they only had grey (my interior is tan). Went to the salvage yard and found a tan latch for 9 bucks. Wow, what a savings! It just went bad... you get what you pay for.
" replacing the female seatbelt connector on the driver's side of my 97 Explorer? "
Thought I did that. Sorry. Yes. The latch. Is there an "easiest way to do it" method of doing this?
When I think of a connector, I think of an electrical connector, which are part of the seat belt system and also referred to as "male" and "female". That's the electrical engineer part of me. No harm done, just making sure we're all on the same page.
