No difference in mileage.

There was a post on here about getting better mpg by using non alcohol fuel. I am staying in SW florida for the winter and a gas station near me sells pure gas.It is priced about 60cent per gallon more than reg.I have a 2010 F150 4.6 three valve 6 speed 4by4 supercab. As an experiment I ran two tanks of pure gas through it and found very little if any difference in mpg.Just my observations.

The difference between E10 and pure gasoline is probably negligible, but running E85 would have a very noticeable drop in mpg.

Also very hard to control all the variables (temp., driving/traffic conditions, wind, load, speed, terrain, etc.) in just two tanks of fuel.

Not saying your observations aren't 'accurate', but you are probably not comparing apples to apples.

i think it's funny how "no difference in mileage" doesn't tug on peoples emotions like "got better mileage with no ethanol"

2011FX2Crazy only did 3 tanks before posting his results, and that provoked a HUGE response. He compared 90 octane to 87.

but i'm easily ammused.

My '86 4x4 with the 351 HO gets 3MPG better without the Ethanol. It will take more than 2 tanks in your computer controlled truck to see the difference.

Just for kicks I'll try one more tank.I'm down to a 1/4 tank on the second tank. One of my tests is I take a 50 mile interstate drive every week to visit some friends every week. After I'm on the freeway and have the cruise set I reset the avg.mpg. At the end of the 50 miles I,m just over 19 mpg, which is the same as I was with ethenol fuel.Wind and temp are pretty much the same.I have hand calculated both tanks and find no difference.(I have hand calculated every tank since the truck was new) JMO

I appreciate your observations, I drive in the real world where I don't have control of all the variables. You documented that the wind, temps, and driving conditions were average and you still got about 19mpg. I’m good with that, no significant MPG improvement. How was performance, did it seem any increase in seat of the pants feel? At the end of the day, would I spend $.60 per gallon more only to have the same drivability? NO... I may be a slow learner, but I don’t need to spend an extra 100.00 just to make sure. 3 tanks are enough for me. And thank for you taking the bullet for the rest of us.<O</O

If you are comparing the fuel mileage in Florida to that of Michigan you might should consider the climate differences as well. Not to mention the altitude in Michigan is 500-1000 ft. above sea-level. Florida is generally less than 500 ft. Fuel additives could vary a little.

I know my trucks get noticeably different fuel economy in the summer than in the cooler and cold weather. During a trip to and from Colorado last September, my truck ran just fine on the 85 octane fuel while I was there but my fuel mileage was noticeably lower.
