5 speed gear change?

I've done much searching before posting so please dont flame me! I have a 99 4dr V10 5 speed and want to change my ring & pinion. It has 315 tires on it and am buying a 28' bumper pull this summer and know i'll be hatin life trying to pull with my 3:73s! Guys with autos seem to be going as low as 4:88s? We do drive up the passes hear in Utah when we go camping. Is this too low for a 15 mile a day daily driver? Also truck has 201458 miles and running way strong! I love my gasser! Thanks in advance for your input!

I'd say 4.56 would be a good compromise, since the manuals are geared lower. Also, the overdrive on an auto is around .70:1 where the manual is around .80:1.

Overdrive on the auto is 0.71:1. Overdrive on the manual is 0.72:1.

6 speed is 0.72, 5 speed is 0.76, was just able to look up the specs.

I'd recommend the 4.56s personally.

i'd go 4:56 aswell..

decent return on $$$ spent for power to the ground.

4:88's wouldnt even be out of the equation based on 315 tires. but 4:56 would be the gear to look at nothin lower. dont waste ur time at 4:10 or 4:30

A set of 4.56s would more than likely fit the bill well. The NPI 2V does not breath in the upper rpm range as well as the PI 2V. Having the manual will help you to be able to shift to try and stay within the powerband.

Any thoughts to installing something like an overdrive/underdrive unit from Gear Vendors? While pretty pricey I'm sure they might be the best of both worlds?

Not as bad as i thought. $2300.00 with the rear locker. Haven't given any thought about the overdrive unit. Will be my March project. Thanks for your input fellas
