HELP!1983 F250 4x4 diesel rear brakes

I bought this truck months ago from an old friend had been sitting for years. After getting to start we realize break petal goes right to the floor.

I replaced both rear wheel cylinders and break lines.

I had a friend pump the breaks and went threw the common bleeding procedure got fluid to come out but break still go to the floor with a bit more resistance than before.

I went threw half a large bottle of nappa dot 3

Do i just need to bleed them better ?

Did i miss something or a special valve ?

Can i get a link to a walk threw for this for my exact truck please.

I need to be out of my place and hauling my trailer Tuesday at the latest and im stuck guys please help thanks

When I had that problem on my 85 it turned out to be the master cylinder. Just kept bleeding the brakes but they never got any better. After I replaced the master cylinder all was good, well after I bleed them again.

Sounds like the master cylinder is leaking. Might want to throw one of those at it too. Be sure all bleed valves are closed tight and no other lines are leaking. Air is still being introduced into the hydraulic system somewhere.

Got it licked thanks guys

Thanks for the support turns out it the main line for the master to rear brake hose was leaking about 2/4 of the way back right in between the frame and gas tank.

I didn't catch this earlier as I have been working on it in the poring rain in a mud puddle in the trailer park on the Oregon coast. If that isn't ford i don't know what is.

Also no one anywhere in town even sell the raw brake line or can order it had to go for jc witney for that. Auto Zone did however have a real nice double flare tool for only 30 buck and you can use and bring back in 90 days if you want kinda of loner cool if you ask me.

When i get moved to the truck is going in the shop and the cab and bed are going to the scrapper....look for my Cab off 1983 F250 restore soon

This is the beginning of a good country song! We may have to start another thread to finish.

Can you pump up the brake pedal at all? Step on the pedal multiple times and build up pressure and have the pedal be up high? (Engine not running.) Then, with constant pressure, does the pedal slowly sink to the floor?

Or, does it immediately sink to the floor and can't be pumped up?

Everything you describe, this is with the engine not running, correct?

In any event, it sounds to me like either the power brake booster or the master cylinder, or possibly both, have got problems (barring no leaks in the system anywhere).

Read http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/brake05.pdf about halfway through is some diagnostic info on the power booster that should help you.

How to Diagnose Master Cylinder Problems | eHow.com should help a bit with diagnosing the master cylinder.

Google brings up some YouTube videos, too.

Some people replace both together as a unit as the cost from the parts stores is apparently pretty similar in some cases.

Disconnect and plug the vacuum line going to the booster, start the engine and then see how it behaves.

Do you ever hear any hissing sounds under the dash?

Oregon it's the brake system. There isnt anything that complicated about it. You just need to find the issue and solve it. Does the motor you have use a vacuum pump to apply vacuum?
