Fuel not reaching the Filter.

We have a 1995 Ford 7.3 Power stroke diesel.

We have replaced the fuel pumps and filters but we still cannot get any diesel to reach the filters.

Is there anything we might have overlooked as to what is causing this problem?

Have you taken the fuel bowl apart before for any reason? When you hook up the electric pump, are you getting fuel out of the tank? Are you checking for fuel with the filter lid off or by opening the drain valve while cranking?

I havent taken the fuel bowl apart.

And the electric pump is getting fuel from the lines not the tank.

We have done both the things you mention about testing it.

But lets say around 3k rpms the check fuel filter light comes on and it starts to choke from lack of fuel.

In the tank itself or the fuelbowl?

We have tried switching on and off, my girlfriend took my truck and had a screwed it up long ago by putting gasoline into it.

Had to replace the fuel lines and the engine since it just plain died on me afterwards. Even after cleaning the lines and flushing the system with diesel.

Tomorrow I plan on cleaning the fuel bowl filter, hopefully that increases the flow a bit.

You had to replace the engine??? The sending units in the tanks have a screen on the bottom of them. The screens are big mess screens so things would have to get real bad before they get clogged.

Yea she drove it for a while before it stopped working.

But last I dropped the tanks there was no mesh screens or anything,
wondering now if that might be the reason the filters get so clogged so fast.

If nothing is down there to reduce the particles from the start it could lead the problems down the line I suppose.

What did you do, stay up all night and pull those tanks? If so, your fast. I pulled my tanks a couple of weeks ago and the screens were perfectly clean. Unless you got a boat load of crap fuel.

Yea it has two fuel tanks.

The fuel selector has i think 6 or 5 prongs.

2 for each tank and 2 or 1 leading out.

Its been a while since I took it out.
