The pan rusts from the outside, not from the inside.

The ony real problem with this fix is if the pan has rusted around the drain plug.

Here's Part 2.

The pan will eventually deteriate on the inside also! That is not fixing the problem, just a short term fix that could potentially harm the engine. Not worth the money!!!

They don't fall apart from the inside. Why do you say they will deteriorate on the inside? Which is bathed in engine oil?

Apparently not to you and that is fine.

But some people may not have the time to pull the engine, the money to have the engine pulled or the ability to pull the engine. This gives them an option that they may be able to afford and/or have the ability to do.

Different strokes for different folks.

oil pan hack and or repair - YouTube

what about this one? he coats it with "Right Stuff", you can see the leaks in the vid, he never even pulled the oil out of it. It sure looks a lot easier and cheaper then the fiberglass diaper from the other vid.
Mine isn't leaking from the pan, but if it was to start I would sure try this guys trick first. I see you can get the tubes for about 17 bucks a tube from Amazon, and he used 3 tubes. If it lasts a few years that is money in the bank.
50 bucks for 3 tubes of this ... or 235.00 for the fiberglass diaper kit from the other vid.

I am in the process of doing mine.....I got a factory ford pan. Not to scare anyone away from doing it but I am over $1,000 in parts already..
I am also replacing alot of parts so won't have little issues in a couple of months/years.
I am just waiting on my manifolds to come in and I should have it back on the road this weekend.

I'm in the middle of a build project and I took the opportunity to take the oil pan off, removed what little surface rust there was (this is a Ford reman. long block) and had it Line-X'd for $25.

Again, please cite your source(s).

Until you provide credible and verifiable information to substantiate your claim, what you've posted is nothing but personal conjecture and opinion based on nothing that has been vetted.

Make no mistake, I'm not being antagonistic. I just wanna know what you're basing your post off of because this is the first I've ever head of what you claim.

quote from Ford was $1655.00

I have a leak around the oil pan gasket -- bolts are tight. I am not lifting the engine to fix it and Ford wanted $1655. Its an annoyance leak. Cardboard on the garage floor is cheaper. It's got 250,000 miles (1997 7.3L) and runs great. Wish there was another good way to fix the leak right, but guess not.

I've never pulled a motor to do a pan. Done them all from little 4 bangers to 7.3's in our trucks.

Just did one about a month or so ago.

Realize this is an old thread and Sorry to butt in but I noticed you have an 03 EX with 7.3 as I do and you have experience with the oil pan. Would you mind taking a look at this and tell me if this is a stock pan; damaged pan; or custom pan?

Thanks,

I honestly don't know. To me it looks like a higher capacity pan possibly from a school bus, dump truck, or what have you and was modified to clear the sway bar.

Thanks for responding!

I haven't been able to find one that looks like it while doing a part search? Not sure what it is but don't think it got that way from the sway bar smashing it as the guy who was looking at my truck yesterday tried to say.

Thanks again,
Tom
