steering pressure switch

I did the sag swap, stock the truck comes with a pressure switch in the pressure line. Is there a way to bypass it? What will happen if I don't hook it up? Because I am not being able to find a pressure line that fits the sag with a pressure swicth mounting location.

I don't have mine hooked up. It gives me a code when I run a KOEO test, but the CEL light doesn't burn.

All the pressure switch does is raise the idle a little to prevent stalling when turning while sitting still.

It "may" throw a code on the KOER portion of the DTC test. It has the part about tuning the steering wheel, pushing the brake pedal etc at certain times during the test. But it would be easy enough to dismiss the code "if" it did set.

Do you have any idle problems? I was told if I eliminate it I will get high idle and possibly stall when turning

I don't have any problems at all. If I turn the wheel sharp the rpm will drop maybe 100 rpm or so, but it has never stalled out on me. But I am not running a sag pump either.

Well I know most people who have done the sag swap don't run pressure switches. But the swap was done on 92+ f series trucks. I have noticed some trucks came stock with it and some didnt

Well I have a 89, and it started leaking around the switch, so I put a short bolt in its place. And I haven't had any issues.

Cool.. looks like I'm going to go to the local parts store annd have them make a hose. It will be way easier than bending the ugly e-series pressure line and also 10$ cheaper not to mention look better. I am sure I could figure a way to wire in a resistor to the plug if need be. Would just need to know what ohm and volt to do.

Anyone else have any input? If its doable to bypass I will have a new line made tomorrow and hopefully have my saginaw working.

Only certain engine/transmission combinations were fitted with a power steering pressure switch. I've been running without one on my '87 302 for probably close to 10 years now. The only thing I've noticed is that it sets a code, but no check engine light or idle problems. Since it is a switch, you definitely don't want to replace it with a resistor.
