What is Torgue

Torque is defined as

"is the tendency of a force to rotate an object about an axis, fulcrum, or pivot."

Yes we know that!! But seldom do drivers of today and "todays age" have ever REALLY FELT a torgue machine. Todays ...and I say this loosely "muscle cars", dont have enough "Torgue" to take a fly off of his perch.

We used to love building torque monsters in old chevy 402's, Ford 351W w/cleveland heads, Chevy 396, Pontiac 421 (in my old GTO)....kids of today do not realize the feeling of sitting in a machine where (you cant grab a dollar off the dash) anylonger!!

Ahhhh....the older days

I completely agree with you. I never experienced the "Older days". (As I'm nearing the age of 20) But I'm fortunate enough to have some wealthier uncles and great uncles that have a collection of cars that mash you in the seat. I also have a built up 351w that'll be going in my truck this next spring so I'm hoping to have something in the ballpark of a torque monster.
One uncle has a Cobra Jet Torino, I want to say it's a 69, he also has a 70's little Bronco with a built up 289 that will buzz up to 9 grand. Another uncle has a 1990 mustang gt with a 347 stroker motor and a single turbo.
It kind of makes me sick when the people that I go to school with brag about how "fast" their audi, or stock v6 mustang, and such is. But they have no idea what it's like to be pinned to the seat, and I'm sure none of them have ever been in a vehicle that can break the tires loose doing 70 in 4th gear.
I'm glad you brought up the subject though. Here's to the old days, and the cars they brought us. and of course, TORQUE

I wish I had the chance to drive cars like that, or Uncles that had cars like that. Lol. But I don't.

My dream car is a 65-67 Ford 2 door Fairlane GT, with the 390 HO. I have also read they came with the 429 cobra jet.

If you could find one with a Cobra Jet motor that would be a killer car.
I'm kind of privileged like that. I've only gotten to drive the mustang, which was plenty for me on the street. haha.

I had one close to that but it was 1966 Ford Galaxie XL with a 390 C6. Just sold it a year ago.

Had a lot of muscle cars over the years , first was a 73 340 duster , that was the slowest , 70 396 nova ss , 71 TA 455 HO , 72 vega GT built 327 , 69 road runner 440 , 69 dodge swinger 340 , 88 mustang 5.0 lx , 92 mustang 5.0 coupe , 95 f 150 SB built 302.....they would all set you back in the seat , the 71 TA wasn't the fastest but had a ton of low end torque.....Lew

I remember back in the sixties, a friend of a friend had a little chevy 2 that he built up. He was at a standing start, punched it and I swear I saw the *** end of that car pick up and move over 6 feet towards the drivers side, it did'nt slide over from burning rubber. I think that I was seeing true torque, but I was a little stoned at the time, and so am unsure to this day.

horsepower is how fast you can hit a wall, torque is how far you drag that wall after you hit it.

No torque? I'm a huge fan of classic musclecars, but (for example) a new Shelby makes over 500HP and 500 ft. lbs of torque.

I bet the Vega was fun to drive. I have always wanted to build a Vega drag car. Once at Ware Shoals Dragway while we were running our SuperGas Chevy ll we were up against a Vega. After the green light he hit the wheelie bars, they snapped, he went over onto the roof...it was wild
