I've got a replacement timing cover for my truck how do I swap the dip stick over?

 

You must mean the dipstick tube. It's an interference fit so you'll have to pull it out.

 

Yeah, you can grab it "gently" with a pair of pliers or channel locks and, rotating it back and forth, pull out on it.
When you put it in the new cover put some #2 Permatex on the part of the tube that goes into the cover.
