Rubber Fuel Hose

I replaced my lift pump this past sunday and decided to replace the rubber hose that connects the hard fuel line to the lift pump. the stuff if got from orileys will not retain its round shape when i bend it. as soon as i start to bend it it flattens out.

i decided that i would re-use the old hose. when i put it on it developed a crack near the end of the hose.

does anybody know where i can get some hose that won't kink or flatten out when it is bent different ways?

I dont know the answer to your question....but i have corrected this problem thru the years by using a regular hose clamp at the place where it bends...the clamp forces it to retain its circular shape. May not be the professional way but it has always worked for me when needed.

What brand did you get? Theres good hose and cheap hose, you might need to pony up a bit more dough for something better quality.

Get some tranny cooler hose. It's really thick, and harder to kink.

get a long spring that fits the hose tight, slide it over the hose.

I'm somewhat surprised then, as Gates is supposed to be a good brand.
Are you trying to bend it too tightly? There is supposed to be a loop there to allow for engine movement.
The transmission fluid hose is a good idea.

i am trying to replicate the loop that the factory set-up has.

it does not fully kink but it flattens out which is still not good as that would restrict flow.

I'm guessing that the hose is smashed into an oval shape because it was wound a little to tightly on the roll it was packaged on. The last few feet of the roll are usually like that where the first part of the roll is better since it's not coiled so tightly. If you don't mind paying $3+ per foot you could get the fuel line for fuel injection, it has a lot stiffer wall than the low pressure stuff. I was just looking at fuel line yesteday and I think the FI hose wasnt coiled nearly as tightly and was in a box.

thanks for the input guys. i am just going to use the orginal hose for now. if it leaks, screw it i don't care. it will only leak that liquid gold we put in these things and let air in causing harder starts. i don't care. yes i am pissed right now b/c my dad is blaming me for tieing up our SECOND garage for two months now trying to replace ORGINAL FACTORY PARTS that have gotten to the end of there life.

i also need to get a new positve battery cable b/c the cable near the bat posts are all coroded and bulging and actually cracking open. but once again screw it. who cares if i burn up a starter or kill my batteries? i don't. it's only money and hey that is what i like to do. find stuff to replace on my truck. somehow i caused the corrosion just b/c i want to have my truck sitting in the garage rather than being on the road. for some odd reason my dad seems to think i like to look for things to repair and spend money on. i have not even told him yet that in the spring i will need new tie rods and radius arm bushings. he's gonna flip. i suppose that will be my fault as well.

i really sucks having to "sneak" around when doing things on my truck even when the broken/bad part was not my fault. he won't even let me open the hood on it until something actually needs replace. even checking something simple like the air filter i have to plan out for when he is not around and then make it really FAST when i do look at it.

sorry for the rant, but it really pisses me off the way he is sometimes......scratch that, most of the time. EXTREMELY hypocritical as well. my truck has been in our garage for ~2 months now. i know exactly what is wrong with it and what needs to be replaced. my dad has HIS tractor sitting right next to my truck taking up the same amount of room. the tractor has engine issues. the frickin' thing has been sitting for a year now and he has not even touched it.

i think i am done now.

now that i have cooled down for the most part i have done some searching. as far as the bat cable goes i found this one.......
More Information for MOTORCRAFT WC8987

public service anouncement:

when you are having a really tough time finding the corect part at local parts stores CHECK ROCKAUTO.COM. i was going to make my own cable. i decided to check rock auto and found the one that i linked to. according to the pic it has all the wires needed and even has the braket and plastic hunk of thing on the wire that goes to the starter.

if anybody coul verify the ford part number for me for the pos bat cable that would be GREAT. i will do some searching as well.

Heavy Duty, Aftermarket, Custom Battery Cables for your Car, Truck or RV

Less expensive and very well built battery cables.

everything i see from them would be more expensive than the ford cable from rock auto. the guy has a history of taking is time in making the cables ans shipping them out. i need them yesterday.
