Ford f100 and f250 2x4 frame differences

Hello!

I am making a f100 flareside truck with cummins 6bt engine. The problem i may be facing is the GVWR. My truck has a 5000 lbs gvwr and i am propably going to need a 7400 GVWR for registering it with cummins and airbags in every corner. I live in Europe so the things are a bit different with cars and trucks.

Is the frame shape and material thickness the same or different? What i read is the in the earlier trucks the frame was all the same. my options is to get higher gvwr rating for this vehicle by showing that my frame and axles can carry the load or get a 7400 GVWR frame and shorten it for my truck.

Thanks if anyone can help me. Also kind of official date, drawings etc. will help me verify if the frames are the same.

On a 1966 F100 2WD

Frame:
Standard Single-Channel, Section Modulus 2.98

On a 1966 F250 2WD

Frame:
Standard Single-Channel, Section Modulus 3.71

On a 1966 F350 2WD (only way they came)

Frame:
Standard Single-Channel, Section Modulus 5.27

As the trucks get bigger the Modulus just keeps getting bigger as well.

So i quess its the same with 1963?

I quess i need to dig a bit deeper because it would be so dissapointing to change the frame and find out that they are all the same.

4x4 frames are totally different than 2x4 frames?

Research is very important, especially on the most changed vehicles within series in Ford Truck history. The only pickup frame that was left alone from 61-66 was the F 350, which by the way, would be my pick to handle the extra weight and clearance a diesel requires ( GVW on F 350 single wheel pickup with 9' bed 8,000 lbs-600lbs over your requirements). Year model means everything on '61-'66 1/2 and 3/4 ton pickups. The '63 114" shortbed section modulus is 2.65, even less than the 2.98 for '65-'66 shortbeds. If your '63 is a 122" longbed, the section modulus is actually higher at 3.34. 4x4 frames are completely different than 2WD frames, but '61-'65 F100 and F250 120" 4x4 frames and '66 F 250 4x4 120" frames are the same at 4.74. I'm afraid you might have to look for another vehicle for stronger bones.

tsipi: You don't mention model year, or wheelbase?

But here is one source for frame charts

Oh, sorry

1963 f100 2wd shortbed flareside (WB 115 or is it 114..). 5000 GVWR with 2600 Front axle.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/6on7h5qvgg...paino.jpg?dl=0

hope the link opens, but there is a picture and i can actually see that there is a difference in frame section.

F100: 5.92 x 2.25 x 0.15
F250: 6.00 x 2.25 x 0.19

interesting to see that 122 " wb f100 has the same frame section as f250 with same wheel base. Still 5000 GVWR... section modulus should be different.. cant understand why...

it's for 1961 but it should be the same for 1963.

You've typed these questions twice in this forum using two different user names. So, here is my response twice

No F150's until 1975 .. D81 has nothing to do with the bed length, it defines the type of material/color of the seat upholstery and whether the truck is a Standard Cab, Custom Cab or Ranger.

> > 1966 F100/750 D81: D = Medium Beige Crush Vinyl & Medium Beige Cody Pattern Woven Plastic / 81 = 81B Custom Cab.
