Coolant Leak and Thermostat Install issues

All,
So last night I decided I would figure out where my coolant leak was coming from. So I replaced the thermostat with a new gasket and then proceeded to fill it back up with coolant. As I was pouring it in it just came back out, running down the engine block as illustrated here:

Also I effed something up installing the thermostat. The seal they gave me didn't have the right sized hole in it, so I set the thermostat in the housing and put the seal over it. Needless to say once it got hot it leaked like a sieve. I used the purple tacky aircraft sealant instead of red rtv also. Any pointers on how to get this right? Had to drive the wife's car today and she is not all too happy. I am thinking about going to buy the ford thermostat that locks into place.

I used the rerd RTV, you ahve to wait about 45 minutes for it to dry before starting the engine. The deal and temrostat is a bit of a pain to get seated right, sometimes it'll fall out as you place it in and not seat right, casuing a leak.

I love Fords but sometimes those engineers don't have maintenance on their minds at all.

I use the thick blue seal with the raised ribs so I don't have to use anything... Install and start... I've had the same seal in and out quite a few times and never had it leak...
