Has anybody measured these axles before. I've looked all over the net and haven't found good numbers and I never remember to check when I have a set of axles around. So, is there or isn't there a width difference between the OBS 10.25 and a SD 10.50? and how much is it?

OP, if you have both axles there can you measure them, FTF?

As was mentioned earlier, the spring seats are the same , and the shock mounts are u-bolted on and simply need to be changed to the front of the axle. This is just for the rear. See the link I posted as he did the front and rear.

Spring seats are the same huh? My bad, I thought the super duty we're 1" wider on each side.

I thought the supers we're 4 bolt yokes as well but wasnt sure...anyway. Once you get it squared away Id be interested in a write up.

SOME ONE IS SMOKING SOME THING ?
the STUDS are not on the axle flange , this is a 10.5" full floating axle right ? and as so the studs are in the hub and the hubs are different from the earlier 10.25" axles and to my knowledge wont swap out !

Thanks for that CJ, totally blanked on that part. I guess if you want the newer axle you're just going to have to change your bolt pattern to the newer one. As for the yoke, if its still a 10.25 you can swap pinions. I've decided to just buy a new ring and pinion set and a LSD to avoid opening up this can of worms. In the link the guy just went with the 8x170mm SD bolt pattern.

Doh!
CJ06 is 100% correct-on this full floating rear axle the axle shaft is just the shaft-the wheel bolts to the hub assembly. IDK if the hubs would interchange or not-the outer bearings are the same part#, but the inners are different.

I may be wrong but I seem to remember that the newer 10.5" hubs were shorter that the older 10.25" hubs !

Not all SD have the flat flange, some have a yolk. Depends on the year.

Also the 99 SD axle have staggered calipers and 00+ have them in the rear

99+ axle are 8 on 170mm bolt pattern and You cannot just swap out hubs but you can machine out the holes to the 8 on 6.5" pattern and use special studs or drill 8 new holes on the 8 on 6.5" pattern
