i have a 2000 expedition and my reverse lights, cruise control, front blower motor,and my rear blower motor do not work, ive replaced fuse 5 and it keeps blowing, if i could just get pointed in the right direction or be given a solution it would be much appreciated. thank you!

 

Are you replacing fuse #5 in the BDB (Battery Distribution Box - under the hood) or in the CJB (Central Junction Box - under the dash)?

If you don't shift to reverse, don't use the cruise control, don't use the front blower or the rear blower, does this fuse still blow?

 

yes, as soon as i start the truck it pops, and if i leave it out and plug it in after i start it it pops, i thought maybe it was the blower motors but they both blow when hotwired, and i think the problem is the switches but im not sure. any ideas?

 

also, the front heat worked after the reverse lights and cruise control. this is frustrating the hell out of me.

You didn't indicate which model you have, if its 4X4, if it has air suspension, or an EATC heater, but here is what fuse 5 powers:

The DRLs
The Speed Control Servo
The DTR (Digital Tranny Range) sensor
The Function Selector Switch on the heater
The Blend Door Actuator
The EVO (Electronic Variable Orifice) Module
(variable power assist for the steering)

I'd suggest getting a wiring diagram so you can find an appropriate spot to disconnect all these items and see if the fuse still blows.
If it doesn't, then connect up one more of these items until the fuse blows.
Then you'll know what circuit to concentrate on.

BTW, has your Expy had the Cruise Control wiring recall fixed by the dealer to prevent a fire?

 

It is a 4x4 and it does not have air suspension. Is eatc electronic air temperature control? If so it does not have it. I have a repair manual for it but I don't think it has the wiring diagram for fuses. Is there a specific place I can look for that? And I just purchased it in June so I'm not sure, is that a huge risk?

 

The most likely suspect is one of the 2 blower motor speed resistors. One of the resistive coils could've broke and is shorting to ground. You can test this theory by unplugging the connector going to each of the speed resistors and seeing if the fuse holds.

Easiest way to check to see if your vehicle has had the cruise control wiring modification installed is to take your VIN to your friendly Ford dealer Service Department and they can run it through their OASIS system to see if there are any outstanding recalls on your vehicle.

Well, I don't know how huge the risk is, but I do remember that Ford was suggesting that vehicles be parked outside until the modification was performed.

(And some of the earlier modifications were recalled again for an 'improved' wiring harness modification.)

Under the passenger side of the dash, about 6-8 inches away from the blower motor towards the driver's seat. It has a single square 4-wire connector going to it and 2 8mm bolts holding it up.

 

is there a way to bypass it or should i just replace the resistor?

 

Just unplug the connector to see if the fuse stops blowing. If it does then change the resistor. Do this same test with the rear blower too.

 

Its not the speed resistors, the switches, or the cruise control. Idk what else to check, any ideas? Thank you for your helps so far it is very much appreciated!
