Fuel pump with glass bowl - is there a gasket?

I have a 1964 F100 2WD 262 I-6 with the fuel pump in the picture below.

I could not find details about this pump anywhere.

When I took it apart, there some weird crap around the lip of the glass bowl. If it was the remains of a gasket, it sure was disintegrated.

The screen in the picture was stuck to the underside of the pump.

Question 1 - is there supposed to be a gasket around the lip of the bowl?

Question 2 - is that screen all there is? Should there be some other filter mechanism?

There is a website called "Then and Now Automotive" that has rebuild kits for all kinds of fuel pumps. I just ordered a rebuild kit for my 1957 Volvo that has a fuel pump with a glass bowl similar to yours. The gasket they gave me was made out of cork. I rebuild the whole pump in about 30 minutes and works good as new. The whole kit was about $35.

The gasket holds the screen in. Put screen in first then gasket. If bowl ever breaks the same places I mentioned before has the bowl.

Thanks, 5 star!

It seemed that the fuel pump was working before I took it apart. I'll just put a new gasket in try it out.
