installed return line kit and new rear fuel tank and wont start on 86 6.9L

I got a 86 f250 6.9l and i just replaced the return lines, caps and O rings as I have diesel leaking from a few of the injectors and i was having a hard time starting the truck. I also replaced the rear fuel tank and the fuel filter(I filled with diesel first)

now its turning over but i can get it to fire up. could I have air in the fuel system? do I need to bleed the injectors or anything like that? not sure what to do

thanks

Yeah you need to bleed the injectors. Crack injector 1 and 8 and wait untill you get good solid squirts of diesel coming out. also if you use the black o rings that come in the kits sometimes they can get torn up when you are putting the return line fitting on them. Get the green o rings no more problem.

Only crank over the truck for 20 seconds at a time and give it at least 1 min cool down in between cranking. it helps to have two people to do it so one can run the starter and the other open and close the injector line nut.

So I just need to crack injector 1 and 8? do i pull the lines fully off the injector, then crank it over until i have a good squirt? or do i just loosen it and let it seep out of the cap?

do i crack both lines at the same time or one at a time like brakes?

or do i need to do it to every injector?

thanks

Ive done both it seems like it works with just 1 and 8 so that is easier. I just let it seep you can tell when you get the air out beacuse it will start then let it seep for a couple of seconds then close them then let it run for 10 seconds and bring it up to 2000 rpm and hold there for 30 sec and then let it idle for 10 min or so, and I do both injectors at the same time. Dont have your tanks empty. It is too much of a pain in the a** to bleed the lines to run it empty. just keep your selector switch on the full tank.

I am trying to start my truck and it still not working.

I crack the lines on cylinder 1 and 8, then pump the gas pedal and turn it over. it just doesnt start. I have tried a few times.

I try spraying starting fluid into the intake manifold and turn it over and it almost starts but doesnt.

Im doing this bymyself right now.

i was hopping it would start i could jump out and close the lines while its running

if I mixed up the two lines going from the sending unit on the rear tank would i have a no problem start?

I have pulled the line going from my filter i have fuel coming out, i pulled the line going to an inject to make sure fuel was coming out and I pulled the return line that goes to the filter to see if fuel was coming out and it is.

I know its got to be a problem with the fuel because it almost starts with starting fluid..maybe im wrong?

If you have fuel coming out the bleeder valve on the filter, loosen all the injector lines 3/4 of a turn, crank til all the lines are wet then tighten them. also are the wires hooked up to your injection pump make sure you hear a click from the pump when the key is turned on.

Still no fuel? pull a glow plug and crank and make sureyou are getting a fuel mist out of the hole.

You can also soak a rag in gas or diesel fuel and lay it over the intake instead of the starting fluid

20 sec cranking with 2min cool down is a must to keep that starter happy.

Ok you need fuel with ZERO air in it. Since you have an electric pump, open the bleeder and run the fuel/air mix into a jar, when no more air appears close the valve and bled the system at the injector lines.

I have a mechanical pump.

I cracked each high pressure line at the injector and turned it over, tightened it up and now its running!!!

I tried forever just doing injector 1 and 8 and go no where. now i finally got it going.

it seems to be running a bit rough but i will figure that out another day.

thanks for the help everyone
