FossenRacing is starting off with a positive reputation.
Cam thrust plate???

Was looking on the comp cam site and came across this.
COMP Cams: Thrust Plate & Bearings; Ford (390-428) 0.142"

I know what it is and where it goes but what is the point of getting one?
Is the factory one not adequate enough for use with one of thier cams?
Is there any point in buying one when installing a cam?
I am planning a build around a 1966 390 HP,GT or PI. Havent looked at the motor yet.
Guy wants 2000 for it complete rebuilt, It has gt heads and exhaust manifolds, adjustable rockers, lunati cam, edlebrock perf rpm, Aluminum tappet covers, all that and more. Can,t pass it up.
Hope i get there and its a 406 side oiler with crossbolt mains.
Has the manifolds that have slant bolt pattern which are moderately hard to come by from what i have read.
Will either save the heads, rockers, and manifolds for another project or sell them. should get 2000 for them easy and have a essentially free block with 10.5 to 1 compression. cant go wrong i dont think.
But back on track are these thrust plates for 700 horse mills or are they cost effective for 450 horse mill?

maxtor is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
When you blue print an engine for racing or just to make your engine run like a swiss watch, you should check your cam end play and it should be .005
Cam thrust plates get worn and when there is to much or to little end play, you can install the kit to bring the end play into tolerance.
The quick answer to your question is if your plate is worn, replace it with a good one or like the bronze plate from Blue Thunder for about $50.

BTW I blueprint every one of my engines, because they are all used for racing. Right now I have a 850hp 434 in my car and will be running it in March. It goes to the paint shop next week.
