Ty I put the new sensor in a little while ago but sadly it didnt solve the big problem.

Seems that under a hard driving conditions the engine stalls.

Around 3000rpms the check fuel filter light comes on and it stops.

Have you changed the fuel filter? Did you happen to clean out the Fuel Pressure Regulator screen while you were in there? Try these two things first and we can go from there.

If you have already done both of those items, you probably should start by checking the fuel pressure at idle. You're looking for 60-70 PSI and it can be checked with a regular old stick style tire pressure gauge.

Don't hesitate to ask for greater detail on any of these things, I just don't feel like writing a novel this morning if you've already tried these items.

We have changed out the fuel filter, currently thinking of pulling the fuel bowl screen filter and cleaning it out.

When it runs instead of a steady stream its short bursts, so thinking it may be that.

In this pic, you see the black plastic cap labeled Schraeder? Remove the cap and use your tire gauge (use a cheap one since you'll get diesel in it) to test the fuel pressure.

Also, the FPR screen can be cleaned without removing the FPR. Sometimes it is hard to get the FPR to seal up and not leak without replacing the o-rings once you have removed it. Pull the cap off the bowl and remove the filter. On the inside of the fuel bowl an couple inches down on the driver side you will see a 1/2" or so hole. It is basically behind the FPR housing just above the arrow in the picture that points to the fuel filter restriction sensor. Pull all the fuzz off the end of a q-tip and use the paper stick to gently scrape the gunk out of the hole and off the screen. It might take a couple q-tips if it is really gunked up. You can also spray that hole out with a litte WD-40 or something to rinse it out, but it is best to drain that junk out using the fuel bowl drain valve before you try and start the truck on WD-40.

Hmm ok I did as you said, but it still wouldnt run at high rpms.

So I took the filter off and cleaned it with wd40 and blew on it till air could pass through freely. I then took the black cone off and cleaned the inner filter.

To my surprise both were relatively clogged.

I also had a line that was sucking in air.

Ive had the truck running and tested it on steep inclines and the engine doesnt stall and turn off like it did.

My problem now is that the fuel gauge is still not working.

The switch to the tanks is working as far as I can tell, I can hear the fuel selector valve move when i flip the switch so I dont think its that.

Are there any fuses or sensors I should look into?

Actually we did and on the fuel exit the pressure is only at 40psi at idle.

We have two pumps on it so I dont know why it would be so low.

The spring in the FPR is getting weak and you need to shim it to raise the pressure.

Here is the "How To":

Wow we just went over this in class today.

I was going to check it out but I let my folks take the truck for a test drive while I was out.

Ill check it out tomorrow and let you know what happens.

Thank you for the help.

Do you have any idea why the fuel gauges are no longer reading the fuel level?
Havent been able to fix that. The truck is running now even under heavy loads but no luck with the gauges.

My guess on the fuel gauge is that the selector switch is bad. If it were the sending unit, you would be able to read one tank (unless they are both bad). It is either the switch or the gauge itself.
