I think there is a filter in the glass bowl under the fuel pump. How do I remove and clean it. I assume its scintillated brass. It appears to be a bale type holding device but under the bale there is a bolt and and flat base thing. I appreciate any input.

 

You need to loosen the bale using the bolt on the bottom so you can move it off to the side of the glass bowl. Inside the housing will be a piece of brass screen to keep large particles out, that is the extent of the filtration lol pretty basic.

I would recommend installing a disposable inline filter between the fuel pump and carb to catch the smaller stuff the glass bowl will miss.

I plan on putting a filter on at some point but I would like to take my time planning where to put it. I would prefer not to cut the metal lines. There is the screen in the pump and a screen right before the gas enters the carburetor. Just to see if I can get the truck to run will it hurt to run the truck without an inline filter. The screens appear to be rather fine.

 

Worst that can happen is you push some crap in to the carb then it will need to be cleaned. If your confident in the fuel go for it, it should be fine. How long has the truck been sitting for? Have you gone through the carb?

Another thing you could do temporarily is disconnect the fuel line at the carb and slide the fitting back far enough on the line to get a piece of fuel line on it then install a barbed fitting in to the carb and use a loop of fuel line and a filter there.

 

I had the same idea. I was worried I would hurt the engine as long as it will only gum up the carb it will not be a big deal. I planned on rebuilding it at some point anyway. I was going to see if it ran without rebuilding it first, why fix whats not broke. Right?
