FICMrepair - successful repair

I am not familiar with the CTS but if it isnt a tuner and just guages then I would say go for it. There are other things, which are just as important, that you can look at as well like EOT and ECT just to name 2.
You want to make sure that the Engine Oil Temp (EOT) and Engine Coolant Temp (ECCT) are with in 15*, otherwise its time for oild cooler rebuild and EGR cooler replacement.
As far as the FICM goes I would say if it aint broke dont fix it, when you check the voltage you will know where to go from here. So IMHO the 400.00 for the CTS is probly a good investment. Also I would have a dealer run and OAISIS on the truck just so you know what has been done.

I have recently purchased a 2005 F250. 6.0 with 44k miles. I have been doing a lot of reading on various diesel boards concerning the FICM issue. If my truck isn't experience any difficult starting and/or rough idling issues, is there a need to have it looked at? Is it a "if it isnt broke then don't fix it situation" or is there preventative maintenance that can be done to the FICM? I am wandering if I would be better off spending $400 on a Edge CTS monitoring system, which will also allow me to monitor the voltage of the FICM.

I have the OASIS and stopped in Atlanta and did EGR block, oil cooler, fuel filters & coolant flush, so I think that the Edge CTS is probably the way to go for now. I should not have Engine Oil Temp (EOT) and Engine Coolant Temp (ECCT) issues with this recent work.
Looks like Ed is the man to go to when the FICM starts to go. Thanks!!!!!!!!

My opinion is get the Edge Insight and monitor the batteries closely and the FICM voltages. From what I read here it only takes a battery voltage of around 11.5 volts or so to screw up a FICM. I was telling an electronics engineer about that the other day and he was flabbergasted that the FICM was designed with that flaw. Of course hind sight is always 20/20.
Edit: I didn't mean to plug the Edge Insight, what I meant was to get some sort of monitoring instrument. I need to take my own advice but money is tight this soon after Xmas. The thing I like about the Insight (if I read correctly) is that you can set audible and visual alarm points. I need to read about that feature more because I would spend the extra bucks for the Insight if the ScanGauge turns out to not have that feature. Maybe others can offer their experiences.

The things to know about the Edge Insight CTS are that it allows monitoring of up to eight things at once instead of only four, allows the monitoring of EGT's with a separately available temp probe, and allows the addition of any number of other nifty tidbits (diesel timer, FP gauge, etc.).
The ScanGauge II is nice and awesome for the price - I just wanted to point out these differences.
I originally purchased the ScanGauge II and was incredibly impressed with it, but really really enjoy my Insight CTS. It of course helps that both of these gauges are transferable to other vehicles when that inevitable time comes.
Thanks for all the kudos!! We do what we can, where we can, helping one fellow 6.0 owner out at a time.

Sent my FICM off to Ed just the other day. I was not aware of any issues with my FICM...but the STC fitting on the HPOP failed and in the process of repairing of that I decided to go ahead and upgrade the EGR cooler along with new oil cooler, replace the oil cooler screen, install the blue spring fuel pressure upgrade, install the upgraded turbo oil supply and drain tubes, install new standpipes and dummy plugs, new IPR valve, and install all new o-rings for high pressure oil system. Elected for the premium ($325) service from Ed to upgrade components in the FICM and get a two year warranty.
P.S. Ed...UPS tracking shows that it should be there on 1-24 by end of day.
