292 distributor springs

292 distributor springs
long time lurker, first time poster. i have a '64 292.....complete rebuild... i need to find advance springs for the distributor. the casting #'s on the distributor are B9AF-12431-B and/or 12127 and/or FEK-12131-B. i've done a complete rebuild with total machine work, and found broken spring remnants in the distributor body while i was in my final rebuild stages. i don't need a distributor necessarily, just the proper springs for the stock unit. if anyone can point me in the direction of the right springs, i'd certainly appreciate it.
thanks,
donnie

as far as i know, this is the only thing available specifically for Ford distributors:
Mr. Gasket 925D Mr. Gasket Advance Curve Kits
it says "1965 and later, most applications", so it may not work for a 292.
Mr. Gasket sells 4-5 different kits for different makes, all cheap. may have to experiment?

Thank You
I appreciate the very prompt responses to my request. i'll have this old truck for the rest of my life, so i'll probably get 2 or 3 sets. it's an old '64 that's been in the family since '65, and this is its first rebuild. i have powder coated the block and everything that bolts to it, except for the intake, exhaust manifolds and x-over pipe, which i ceramic coated. i replaced all of the bolts/nuts/washers with stainless except for the outside head bolts, which are zinc coated grade 8. it is bored .030 over and balanced. the piston crowns are ceramic coated, and skirts are dry film lubed. it's going to look too nice to stick back in this old truck. the outside of the truck will get a facelift this year or next.
Thanks again .... your information is much appreciated.
i'll post some pics when i get the motor buttoned up.

Hi,
I found your thread by searching for any information about distributor advance springs for my 71 mustang - not quite a truck
It has a 351C 2V engine with a Autolite D0OF-12127-U distributor.
I just disassembled it and discovered that it has two different springs, while the stronger one is loose. Here is a picture of the springs with weights and the associated markings on the shaft (13L for the stronger one, 18L for the weaker one). I own the shop manual, but it just says for both springs that they have either part number 12191 or 12192.
As I understand now, there is a primary (weak?) and a secondary (strong?) spring, which might fit with what I found in the distributor.
Is it normal, that the stronger one is loose?
When I have a look for such a spring at Antique Auto Supply (mentioned by NumberDummy) there are dozens of different ones containing that number, like
8EQ- 12192 DIST SPRING
B7A- 12192-A
B8A- 12192-A DISTRIBUTOR PRIMARY SPRING
etc.
Does anyone know how to find out which would be the right ones (primary and secondary)?
Are there any more specifications like length and spring tension to find anywhere?
Many thanks in advance,
Kai (from Germany)

All I did was look up the spring applications listed under D0OF-12127-U .. So, they are the correct springs...as long as the dizzy ID number is D0OF-12127-U.
There were other sources for these springs, but were Ford Dealers. Dealers usually don't ship to Festung Europa!
But Green Sales does, as they're an obsolete parts vendor.
What is the condition of the point plate? Originally it was composed of two separate plates, upper & lower.
1972, Ford replaced the two individual plates with one. But, it's basically two plates with nylon bushings connecting the upper to the lower.
The bushings crack apart = time for a new plate.

Bill,
My point plate is the one with the two separate plates. Luckily they are in good condition.
The cam assembly has a little play to the shaft (even if I was able to get the retainer off, I still doesn't want to come off), but the shaft doesn't have any obvious play to the bushings. I thought the axial play (collar to housing) was way too much, but actually the 'Distributor Shaft End Play' should be in between 0.024 - 0.035 inch, and it is about 0.027. I still want to disassemble the gear and collar to clean and lubricate the shaft.
