Bounds-Electric:
Just had the turbo waste lines replaced which meant the cab or transmission had to be removed. $1,000 in labor for a $150 part. Can you honestly say that I have never owned one?
I doubt I will ever own a Ford truck again unless it's an older one. The only reason I will run this truck into the ground is because I had a new engine put in it after the head gaskets went. It was the mechanics mistake so Ford bought me a new motor.

People seem to think this kind of crap is limited to PSDs or something. Ford technical procedure for replacing the oil pan gasket on my 1989 Ford Bronco w/302 was to pull the engine, replace gasket, reinstall. You don't even want to know what the dealership wanted in order to replace a $10 part (gasket).
Blame your $1000 labor charge on ridiculously high dealership labor rates, not the truck. My dealer is just shy of $100 per hour. Pulling the cab on the PSD is certainly easier than yanking the engine on my old bronco, yet you don't hear people screaming about the piece of crap old 302s in piece of crap poorly designed 1989 Ford Broncos.
For the record, the dealership was right. There was absolutely no way on gods earth the oil pan was coming out of that bronco with the engine still in it. My solution was to drop the pan and leave it lay where it will, clean all the surfaces to the best of my ability (which turned out to be pretty good actually) and use some gasket sealer to stick the new gasket to the block. Reinstall pan and away I went. I'm sure I spent more than a couple hours getting it all done, but done it got.
The MFG/dealer way is not always the ONLY way, but it's the way they will do it and you will have to pay for it. This holds true no matter the vehicle.

I kind of thought you did not buy the truck new. You bought a truck not knowing what it had been threw put 35,000 miles on and Ford put a new motor in for you to bash. So if you do not like it sell it and move on!

First let me say I love my 10. I just got the fuel filters replaced at 13k miles. I wanted to do it sooner but dealership declined to do it at 9K even through I bought the 5K service plan for severe duty driving. anyway they finally gave in after I showed them the brochure and they did it so Im happy. I really think maintenance is not only key its critical.
My concern is that all the high milage trucks are the ones that have removed their emission system. I do look on auto trader allot and there are a bunch of 100k trucks and up. but people don't really disclose that they removed parts.

Push the setup button than reset. The display will display different messages like air filter ok, battery ok, door closed and when in regen it will display exhaust cleaning... I do not see that BS anymore...

I am wondering if I should spend $3,500 for an extended warranty to get me to 100K miles and then spend another $3,000 to do the EGR and PDF delete after 100K miles.
Or....
Just skip the extended warranty and take that dough and spend it on the EGR and PDF delete now.....so I too wont see that BS anymore. And gamble nothing major plagues me up to 100K miles.

Hit submit too soon. Yeah, the only way to tell now is with some dirty of monitor, knowing the difference in how the engine performs, noticing it when it displays or cycling through the message center.

Hey, Got a quick question, Looking at a 08 F350 Lariat DRW, Has 77k on it. I look in the carfax and the EGR vavle was replaced at 69k miles. It has been checked over by several dealers since then. I drove it seemed to drive okay, Very nice truck. Just concerned about the EGR thing.. Should I be?

Very few EGR issues with this motor.
Radiators are a weak link though. Look at the seams carefully.

Thats good to hear. Any maintenance tips geared specifially to keeping EGR coolers healthy or is it really necessary?
