Advice on used 6.4

I am kinda in the same boat as the OP but am looking at spending about 10k less. I have been looking at 2008 lariats in the low 20k range and most have anywhere between 90k-130k miles on them. This would be a daily driver as well as towing a meesley 6000lbs every once in awhile. I have done alot of research and some of the things I read make me nervous about the reliability of the 6.4. I know that doing a EGR and DPF delete helps the reliability but I am concerned about any other issues cropping up. I have resigned to the fact that it will have no warrenty when I buy it but am a little concerned that I am going to go 10ft down the road and something serious is going to give. I would feel more confident in a 08+ dmax but know that they are a little out of my price range.
I guess what I am asking is how many have put 150k+ on their 6.4 with no issues? I have not found many, but would love to have some confidence instilled before I make the decision to buy.
Thanks and sorry if I am thread jacking.

My 2 cents

It's for pulling my car, I don't really trust a half ton truck to tow anywhere from 2000 miles in a weekend to 1000 (which should only be 5 or 6 times a year and depends on where I'm racing) . If it was just around town sure but by the time I buy a nice dependable half ton I might as well get a diesel.

I didn't post to debate what truck I would get, I was just asking how many put well over 100k on their trucks without issue.

I'm retired and trucks are a sort of hobby. I check ebay and craigs around the country on a regular basis. Lately there are a number of 6.4Ls showing up with 200,000 plus. In fact I was just looking at an extended cab on ebay. Truck is in miami, mileage was 240,000 or close to that, price was 19K or make an offer. Truck looked nice and according to the seller ran fine. Yesterday we had a post from a guy who used to be a regular, he was reporting that his 08 F450 just went over 200,000. The 08s are 5 years old now or close to it and the high mileage ones are showing up.
I get you're not seeking advice but in the interest of full disclosure here's some any way. If you can't stand a hard hit in the wallet you might want to think hard about this truck. While the evidence is getting better that they will stand up to 200,000+ miles it's also piling up that when they break they are very expensive to repair. I was just reading about a guy buying a $685 alternator. A fuel system can cost 8 to 10 thousand dollars to replace, and they break pretty easy. Since you're hauling a race car I'm gonna assume you know how to hold a wrench, but parts are expensive and many repairs require removing the cab to get at the parts. The reason you see so many 6.4Ls for sale with just over a100,000 miles is that owners are reluctant to own them out of warranty. There now I feel better. Good luck, come back and let us know how you make out.
On edit let me add this: If you buy a 6.4L with high mileage try to make absooutely sure it has been maintained at the ford severe service level.

Then I would do a search under "most miles" in the 6.4 section, there are several posts with trucks that have 200K + miles on them. They might have the information your looking for.

I have never had any engines problems with mine since it rolled off the trailer back in june 2007. The only problem i had was a bad fuel level sender-and that was electrical and replaced under warranty. Remember maintenance is key.

Bounds-Electric:
I have owned Ford trucks since I started driving in 1984. My first one was an F100 with a 302. Got 250K before I sold it. Second was a 1965 F350 with a 352. Third was a 1984 F250 with a 351. My fourth, a 1993 with the 7.3 (naturally aspirated engine) ran 240K before I sold it and it ran another 100K.
After owning a V10 Excursion, I switched over to a 2008 F250 with a 6.4. It's very expensive to fix, had the head gaskets done at 170K, the rocker arms were worn as well which seems to be a common problem. Just had the turbo waste lines replaced which meant the cab or transmission had to be removed. $1,000 in labor for a $150 part. Can you honestly say that I have never owned one?
I doubt I will ever own a Ford truck again unless it's an older one. The only reason I will run this truck into the ground is because I had a new engine put in it after the head gaskets went. It was the mechanics mistake so Ford bought me a new motor.
I would say you have never owned one, best truck I have ever had. I love the King Ranch.
