service emissions system message

I have a 2005 Mercury Mariner V6. It is displaying "service emission system" on the driver info screen that is right above the steering column. This message appears when I turn on the key and disappears when I start the engine. Check engine light is functional and there are no codes in the computer. What's going on? How do I eliminate the service emissions message?

Most vehicles the warning lights will cycle intially at KOEO, and will go out when started, this is normal prestart diagnostics. If it remains on after running, then you have something to worry about.
