Engine Oil Cooler

I just put in a new oil cooler and now my truck will not stay running. Any thoughts? Do I need to flush out everything before it will work properly?

Wont stay running, like , what. You finished the task and started it but it wont stay running? Have you been able to drive at all? And how long did it run?

What year is the truck.

What kind of "sludge" are we talking about here?

Do you have anyway of looking at sensors? ScangaugeII or something?

If the oil cooler failed, the motor has to be completely flushed to get all the oil out of the cooling system, it is a very tedious task , if not flushed properly the "sludge" will clog the new oil cooler in very short order. So I assume the oil has been changed and is clean, the filters are motorcraft and new?

I bet your IPR is trashed and you need a new one

probably got junk in the IPR screen and got blown out

very common after this kinda work
when you open the HPO system on these trucks it must be kept SPOTLESS Clean

It sounds like you had chocolate milk looking coolant... right? If that's the case you need to really clean out the whole system and if that wasn't done, or even if it was, a few sensors like the IPR Blade mentioned could be shot. You might need a second oil cooler too.
