need oil presure help

I have a 91 econoline 250 5.8L.My oil presure drops when I am slowing down to nothing. When I am moving it reads fine.It drops when I am stopped ans it starts ticking, now I am getting leaking around the front and back of the oil pan.A few days ago i had no leaks at all.My question is do I have to raise the engine to change the oil pump and gaskets?thanks for your help.

Yes you do need to lift the engine a few inches.

Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds .

Check out my Gallery for a look-see.

My '89 F-150 w/ 5.8L does the same thing. I'm currently in the middle of pulling the pan. I had to use a floor jack and wood block to lift the engine at the oil pan. I could only lift mine about 2", even after pulling off the upper intake. I had to cut the exhaust pipe going across the back of the pan to remove the pan. I also had to drop the pick-up tube and oil pump into the pan before the pan would come off. The screen on the pick-up tube was very dirty. I think that may have been causing my problem.

As your main bearings wear, the crankshaft drops down. When the engine is running, the crankshaft turns in a larger diameter because of the bearing wear ant will cause rapid wear of the front and rear seals. The best thing for you to do is get into it and replace your main and conecting rod bearings. And while you are in there it is a good time to do the timing chain and gears and the oil pump. You will have many more miles if your valves and rings hold up.
