On a sidenote there is a little fun factor in using E10. Everytime I fill up my Ford with it, in my only little way I get to say up yours to Chavez and Ahmadinejad.

And you are saying up yours to the tax payers who subsidize the ethanol industry...thank God that is coming to an end.
"And you are saying up yours to the tax payers who subsidize the ethanol industry." Those are your words not mine. Take my words for how they were intended..humor. If you don't like them fine. Just don't twist my words around to fit your agenda.
And you are saying up yours to the tax payers who subsidize the ethanol industry...thank God that is coming to an end.
as opposed to saying "up yours" to the tax payers who subsidize the oil industry?
what's the diff?
at least the ethanol money, by and large, stays state side.
I'm glad you feel better about ending the subsities that help american companies and american farmers, whilst continuing the subsities that fund foreign governments. look it up for yourself.
as i've said before, people need to do a little research before spouting off such nonsense.

Usedup----I think you used up to much crack and fried your brain. At least the money has stayed state side and not went to Nicaragua or the middle east to the wacko's who want to take our money and then kill us. Duh !!! You need to enlighten yourself.
I do agree we don't need to bash the forum members but on the same note the points that are brought up are valid
the only subusidy in ethanol are blender pump stations the actual producers are not getting any seems weird that we still subsidize petroleum oil and not our home grown industries
now as for my personal experiences over the years
I have done much testing over the years
95 neon 28 corn gas 31-33 regular
97 caviler didn't see any difference about 32
98 dakota v6 2wd 19 corn gas 23 regular
05 escape 19 corn gas about 21 regular
for me I don't see any reason to burn plain regular the math doesn't work and besides the ethanol industry is where I work so I makes my mortgage and pays my bills
the Money that the ethanol plants put into our communities is extraordinary
from the farmers that sell the corn
the suppliers that supply anything from welding supplies to chemicals to uniforms
the parts that are used and fabrication and upgrades
I see thousands of dollars that are spent every day form supplies to repair parts that stay in our communities
the truck drivers that haul ddg and oil out
the railroad that haul the ethanol
I am not telling you to buy it but do the math and and see what is right for yourself
I had my wife and daughter buy a tank of pure last week and I have the numbers from both those vehicles now.
97 Expedition with 269,000 miles...
Now my wife works 77 miles from home so she does 154 miles a day all highway. On E10 She has always had to fill up every other day. So she gets Monday and Tuesday on one tank, Wednesday and Thursday on the second and has to fill up again Friday morning.
On Pure gas she can go almost three days on a tank. She really liked the extra day of fuel.
On E10 it gets 15.71 mpg's which gives her about 330 miles per tank. On pure it got 21.64 mpg's and she got 460 miles on the tank.
My daughter drives a 97 Explorer with 164,000 miles....
She is in high-school and works two part time jobs so all her driving is short distance and all within 10 miles of the house.
She gets 17.9 on E10 and 22.9 on the Pure. All short distance drives in town. She has 3 months left of high school and is heading off to Florida Southern College... She wants a new fuel efficient car for graduation.
I'm considering getting her the new 300hp 6 cylinder Mustang. Ford is claiming it gets 30 mpg. Need to do more research though.

This thread sure has went in a direction I didn't intend.
OK, off topic to lighten it up, being a FL guy you may enjoy this pic. Between session at Sebring I ran into town to a station that is a throw back to 30 years ago. Friendly service and even still has full-serve pumps. The guy that runs the place refused to switch over to E10.

Friend of mine shot this pic.
Again thanks for info and research on this.
Your welcome....Nice ride!

I was at Walmart tonight in the auto products section and found the following: Lucas and Stabil both make an additive for ethanol fuel to decrease the negative aspects of the ethanol. They say they can be used with E10, E85 and other such ethanol fuels.
My question would be if they netualized the ethanol in 87 octane E10 fuel would that drop the octane below recommended octane for most cars and trucks? Addivtives were only $8 and $5 to treat up to 80 gallons worth fuel.

That is a good question and something worth reading up on. Like you I would be skeptical about this product until I know more.
i think you are probably talking about the Blue colored Stabil?
I use it in my boat and any gas i'm going to keep around for awhile. Not because of the ethanol, but because the blue stuff goes a lot further than the red stuff.
IIRC, the blue is 1oz/10gal and the red is 1oz/2.5gal.
the "negative effects" of ethanol are highly debateable, as this thread kinda shows. I agree with all of the theories about the down side, but i've just never seen it. Aside from the fuel economy issue (which could be solved by a higher CR) I think most of the negatives are temporary in nature. once the ethanol gets your fuel system clean, it will stay clean.

Maybe you should redo your math. Right now with ethanol gas at 3.15 and regular at 3.25. 17 miles per gallon on ethanol is 0.1852941 cents per mile for fuel. 18 miles per gallon on regular is 0.1805555 cents per mile for fuel. 1/2 cent per mile less cost on regular at only 1 mile per gallon better mileage. Yes, there was definitely a savings on ethanol back when it first was introduced when the price was much lower. Now there is not enough differential in price to buy ethanol. For ethanol to be at least as good a buy at today's price it needs to be priced 19 to 20 cents lower than regular. We have been brainwashed into thinking that as long as it is lower it is a better price. The differential in prices has not kept up with the increases in prices for the gas. Also I am only showing what a one mile increase would be. Most people would get 2 or 3 miles per gallon increase on regular.
