1977/1978 Super Cab Truck Builds

This thread may be slow going...but I figured i'll try and document the build between mine and a buddies Super Cabs. He just joined the site today...his screen name is Colonial Blacksmith....Not sure how much he'll get on...but maybe he will a bit. I'm gonna post a bunch of pics of what we are working with and will try and explain what parts are going where...feel free to ask questions and I will answer as best I can and as often as I am able to.

His truck will be this cab and front clip...the bed is going to my Crew Cab project unless I happen to find a rust free one that is dual tanks (It's a Short Bed)

This body is going away...the bed is already long gone...I sold it about 8 months ago...This is the frame and axles(Both D60's) I'm using for MY Super cab Build

This is the body that will be going on MY Super Cab build...It's RUST FREE and from Arizona...The Frame and running gear with get the front clip and cab from the first pic put on this frame.

This Bed will be the bed that goes with the Cab and Front Clip onto that frame for Colonial Blacksmith's Truck

Starting Disassembly

That bed looks familiar, and that is quite the A-frame. I will have to come by someday and check it all out.

Yep...That's the bed you sent me pics of...in fact those ARE the pics you sent me...LOL....The A-Frame had to be seriously modified...I bought it for doing truck bodies....the guy i bought it from built it to lift compressors...heavy duty ones....but when i tried lifting a cab with it...it wasn't tall enough....so Colonial Blacksmith and myself....Laid it down...cut the top off....I bought some pieces of Rectangle tubing....welded plates to the outside due to the fact they don't make a size that would fit inside the 4x6 tube....and put it all together....and in Colonial Blacksmith's own words.... "Custom modified hoist to remove body parts from frame. While getting that hoist upright was an interesting experience, it was a feat of white trash engineering that I really do not care to repeat!"....It was not very fun getting it stood back up...LOL...We'll definitely have to get together...I need to still get down your way to pick up a transmission from Windsor1

do you happen to need a cab? if so let me know, or if you know someone who does let me know, as i have an already stripped cab from a 77. i also have a bench seat to go with it (red) and two back bench seats for it one tan and one blue. cab is rust free except for the back of the cab at the bottom where the cab and bed meet there is a small fist size rust spot on each side. but drip rails and doors and cab corners are all in great shape. i dont think you need one looks like you got all the parts you need, but thought i would check with you.

i hear ya on shipping. although i dont want much for the cab. only looking for 350 for it. depending on how you felt about it im only 5 hours from lake point. im not sure if that is to far for you or not. but let me know.

this is just how i got it home. where it looks like surface rust is actually sandblasting and primer to keep it from rusting again.

and it is on pallets to keep it out of the dirt and all.

Fair enough. And none taken. Was worth the time to ask you though. Good luck on your builds.

I like fabbing and swapping and all that...but I like the Dent frames...I'd rather swap stuff into the engine bay than swap a body onto another year frame...but that's just me. White and Blue body goes on the One that had the red and white bed.....Burnt Orange and Tan Cab and front clip go on the frame that the White and Blue body are coming off from...and then the orange and primer bed will go on that....the 2wd Super Cab frame may get saved to turn into a 4x4 later by sectioning in the pieces to make the frame 4x4 from an F-250 4x4 frame I have...unless someone happens to need one of the frames
