03 6.0 ???'s

Looking for some advice on what to do with my truck. Its an early build 2003 6.0. A couple weeks ago the dealer put in a new HPOP and IPR. After having this done I finally got around to buying a Scan Guage. Now I am finding that the EOT runs 20 to 30 hotter than the ECT. I assume that I need a new oil cooler.

What I am wondering is, do I put in a cooler and do an EGR delete while its apart? How many hrs do I need to plan for the work?

Or, Do I sell the truck as is and look for a gasser to replace it with as I am starting to get tired of the diesel headaches and the lack of room in the engine bay.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Ben

well, i recommend doing a restore and restore+. then put on a coolant filter. this should take care of the 6.0 problems. the hp oil problems are much more common on 05-07. if the delta doesnt change, then u should rebuild the cooler and do the delete.

is the ECT & EOT READings on the SGII the same after a 12 hour cold soak upon start up

I would think if you can get thru this oil cooler delema I bet you be problem free for awhile

as far as time it took me 3 1/2 days to do an oil cooler egr deleate thats with a bunch of flushing coolant system probably a whole day flushing and cleaning intake manafolds and stuff like that Im just a Hobbiest guess you could say
The pros here can probably stud a moter in a few Hours

get a coolant filter going

you also could leave the round EGR cooler you have on it those were the good ones
03s Rule

And if your sick of it get rid of it

I miss my old 03 6.0 as well. I would reconsider deleting the EGR, since the early EGR coolers were more robust than the later ones.

I vote to keep the truck, flush the system, and install a new oil cooler ( and t-stat) and coolant filter. Should be set after that.

Kinda hard to pull the gooseneck trailer with a Jeep!

The temps are within 2 degrees when the engine is cold. I was mostly thinking the EGR delete because if I have it that far apart anyways... The Egr cooler was replaced shortly after I bought the truck, around 80k, due to it cracking and leaking to the outside. Turbo was also replaced before 100k. The truck now has about 144K on it.

ECT runs at a steady 185. I leave the EGR valve unplugged, so I am not too worried about boiling it.

Yes it is Ben maybe you should stay with the 6.0 then . The gasser is not going to have near the power you have . Also these trucks are not as bad as people make them out to be mine has never left me stranded or failed to start knock on wood. Put in new oil cooler when temps got like yours mine were 235 and climbing. But these round EGR coolers we have are pretty much full poof , not as much chance of having reduced flow from oil cooler and popping the EGR cooler. I have replaced some injectors and the ICP and had my ficm rebuild but have also done all the work myself . Have saved a ton of money that way.
