truck dies sometimes 92 Flareside 5.0
ok guys.. im having an issue with the flareside..
its cutting out at cruising speeds sometimes and also will die when pulling up to a stop. also surges some at idle etc. will die at times in park idling..
not always but often after its warmed up.
i cant figure it out. thought i had it fixed with a idle adjustment but wrong..
IAC????

^^^^^^^my 87 was doing the same thing .changed the spark plug and the fuel filter that's inside the frame. has been running good ever since . used to take 3 to 4 tries to start is . starts first time after the fuel pump stops running , believed it to be a fuel pressure problem -hope this helps

its still not running right...
pulled codes when got home from work...
21... cooling temerature sensor out of specs or ect out of range
23.... TP sensor out of range or Idle set to high (idle is mine had to to keep it running)
24..... Intake Air Charge temperature (ACT, IAT) sensor or vane air temp (VAT) sensor out of range.
34... Evap control system fault/voltage higher than closed limit/defective EGR pressure transducer sensor.

Your first problem was screwing with the idle. If everything else is running fine, you never need to touch the idle.
Was the truck cold when you ran the test? That would explain codes 21 and 24.
For the second code, I would use a multimeter to check the voltage at wide open and closed throttle and make sure it's in spec.
I'm not sure about the last code.
Last, how are you reading the codes? A 1992 should be giving you 3-digit codes, not 2-digit ones. If that's the stock computer and you're reading them with a paper clip, I'm almost certain you're doing it wrong.

i had adjusted the idle a little lower when i first got it.. it needed a TPS.. then i put it on and it was idling so low it would about die.
i just cleaned up the IAC now and letting the computer reset..

this may be it, if I was you I would adjust it back to where it was when you first got it before adjustment...test it that way and see if that resolves the issue...

I didn't say you should replace it, I said you should test it. They are easy to test whether they're working and then there is no guesswork.
