Door Open light on dash

the light on the dash that tells me a door is open is always on!

I did the bit with the key that shows codes on the dash and then opened every door 1 at a time. The number changed each time except when I opened the hatch. how can I check that? where is the door switch? I read some stuff that said to spray the latched with WD40 but that didn't work for me. think I need to find the switch and clean it up.

It used to be cop car so they may have disabled something but since the code doesn't change when I open the door I think it might be there.

The interior light doesn't come on when you open the door either but I think they must of set that up that way. I'll have to look into that one after I get all the door switches working

Squirt some wd-40 in the switch on the hatch doors, should fix it.

Hi 05-X,

Welcome to FTE.

I'm in Florida where there seems to be pine needles, magnolia leaves, oak leaves, sweet gum, or some other kind of natural fallout much of the year. And I get a "door ajar" alert on a semi-regular basis. I find that just taking a rag and cleaning the debris out of the rear hatch track does the trick. It's amazing how quickly (and how much) debris can accumulate up there....

What is this key bit that you are speaking of? I also have the door ajar light on and it's been that way for two freakin' years. I've dumped entire cans of WD-40 to try and clear it up to no avail. I'm debating replacing both rear sensors in the hopes that it clears up the problem. Anyone out there have experience/write-up on changing those suckers out?

I'd appreciate some insight too. I have an 02 Excursion with the door ajar light on. I can't tell if its from the rear hatch or the rear passanger. What do the sensors look like? Are they the black plastic where the male door side slides into the female body side? I see that on the rear doors but not on the man doors.

Thanks

I had the rear hatch problem too. I tried and tried WD40 and could not get it to close it was leaving the lights on and killing my battery. My brother came by, sprayed the WD40 in the latch, close open close sprayed close open close sprayed open close open and just like magic it worked.

I think its a matter of really soaking it and then working it free by opening and closing the door lots. He wasn't gentle either, I would consider it slamming the door.

The Key Bit = gauge diagnostics - hold down the trip reset and turn the key on (or start it) until it spikes. then the codes will be displayed and you can scroll through using the trip rest button. one of the codes is for the doors when it is up you can have someone open and close each door to see if it changes.

The spray method didn't work for me either. The diagnostic did help me determine that it's my right rear passenger door that's causing the problem. I'm going to pull the panel off this week and do some digging. I've heard problems where insulation has been rubbed off wires causing issues...

I opened up the panel today and I couldn't see anything wrong so I started working on the connections... Next thing I know is my running board lights turning off!!! I had a bad connection somewhere so we'll see how long that fix lasts.

I believe the barn doors have nothing to do with the door locks. So theoretically you could keep the barn doors wide open and shut the rear window and it would be secured. So all you have to be concerned with is the latch mechanism on the window.

Sometimes mine still registers as open if I don't slam the window hard enough.
