<hr style="color:#D1D1E1; background-color:#D1D1E1" size="1"> Wanting to upgrade my trans, though about the T5 swap but looking for something a little more bolt in, what are my options?

Truck has the original 3speed column shift converted to floor shift.

As far as a direct bolt on, I don't know of any, there might be but most people have to use an adapter to get the transmission they want to work with a Y-block. Couple members here doing it. The adapters run around $700.

Howdy,

You might want to provide a little more info.

What year truck, what engine etc...

Assuming his albumn truck is the one we are talking about (I had to dig since I am rapidly becoming a "tranny expert" hah)

He's got a '59 F100 4x2

These chart focuses on the 1st gen F1 swaps admittedly, but you can see what all was used in your years (and maybe as you glean some info you can tell me so I update my chart).

A T86 is all I got so far at all that covers your year....
Crawl under there with a scrubbie and figure out what is cast on the side - if it has a tag, write down everything on the tag, heck write down everything you can find on the trans.... we'll help you figure it out and I might learn somethin in the process.

Some Ford y-Blocks used the BW T10 4spd during that time period starting with the 56/57 T-Bird

The 3+OD was a modification of a really good tranny into a piece of junk - The shift pattern was messed with, the gear spacing had really big gaps and the gears were weaker.

Dick, is that the T85 you are talkin about? Just curious, cause I hadn't heard any big positive or negative about most of the trans I researched (well Bill did mention the weaker sister bit on T170's)... and if there is a big draw not to use a specific trans I'd like to note it in my article/thread.

hellbilly -did ya get the numbers off the side of the trans?
