Chrome Grill fail

The chrome on my grill is lifting off, at first I thought I got dinged in a parking lot or something, but now it is spreading all across the top of the grill.

I can press on it gently and feel the separation.

Anyone else have such an experience? I'm sure since my truck is now 4 years old there will be no warranty claim honored.

I'll try and get a picture of it this weekend when I have some light to get a good shot of it.

by now you can probably find one in a junkyard to replace it. Mine is fine.

I have a spot where a rock must have hit it as there is a small chip and a bubble about the size of a quarter around it. The good news is that it hasn't spread yet. I may get it sprayed with Rhino lining some day if it does.

Wow, sorry to hear about the grille. This isn't a common thing but I have heard of it before. A new grille is a pretty expensive proposition and with you being out of warranty I would suggest looking at aftermarket grilles or possibly another finish you could apply that would look good.

I have the bubble blister seperation on the header part of RH side on grill. About the size of a fifty cent piece and raised up about 1/4"

I guess I can look into an aftermarket one. No way a 4 year old grill should be lifting like it is.

i had a wrinkle in my chrome that raised slightly with time...luckily (i guess) the body shop included a new grill in the insurance quote when I had a fender repair done a couple years ago and I got a brand new one. Admittedly, I am quite surprised on the cheapness of the chrome covering on the grill and wheel centers...those are starting to sheet off pretty rapidly now. I think the carwash wheel scrubbers are too agressive.

I personally have not heard of that. Definately shouldn't happen. In fact, most of the older super dutys I see around don't have that issue. Try the dealer and see what they say and if they don't help you call FORD customer service and push the issue.

Happened to mine also. Look on ebay, found a OEM replacement for $200 some bucks. I was at 38,000 miles, dealer said there was nothing they could do but try to call Ford as maybe they could help out.

Needless to say, I called Ford and was told that it is their policy to not help customers out after the warranty was up, and they were pretty rude about it also.

Too bad considering it is such a nice truck, their attitude makes me think GM next time, although I'm sure they give the same treatment...

Check the aftermarket CAREFULLY. Ford has not authorized any repops that I'm aware of, the only aftermarket grilles I've seen lack the SUPER DUTY lettering, my guess is due to Ford trademarking. Silverstate Ford (site sponsor) has pretty decent pricing on new ones.

Just the standard chrome one that has SUPER DUTY stamped in it. I can take a picture if you would like to see it.

I was just curious if it was the one that had 6 chrome horizontal bars or the two thick horizontal bars.

Mine is very pitted and the chrome is lifting in some places, so is the Ford oval - its just plastic crap and is showing road rash from sand, etc. I had 3M stuff applied on hood leading edge and its helped lots in terms of protecting the paint...
I might get an aftermarket black oval and not sure on the grille - might look into refinishing it with something??
