Arrow Buying bed rail caps for my dad - Simple questions

Hi all,

I'm trying to track down some black plastic bed rail protector caps for my dad's 1990 F250 long bed. I have a few questions

What brand does everyone recommend? I'm guessing the Bushwacker ones would be the best. It's really hard to tell from the pictures, and I don't want something that's going to crack in a few years.

Are the 1990 beds the same as the 1996 model beds? Some sites only list their bed rail caps as 92-96, but I thought the bed was the same from at least 88 to 96.

Can a truck cap be installed on top of these bed rail protectors? If not, is there a brand that's easy to remove? My dad has a truck cap, but only uses it for a few months out of the year.

Thanks, guys.

I had metal ones on my 94.5 PS. With those metal is metal...all the same.

I cannot speak about the plastic ones...I have no experience. I had factory plastic ones on my old 07 and my brothers 04.

and yes you can install topper with bed rails.

Well that at least answered one of my questions; thanks, Maverick. I suppose I could get him metal covers. It's a black truck, and I think black caps would look best. I'm worried that if the metal ones are painted aluminum, the paint would flake off eventually.

Do you know if there's a difference between the 88-92? and the 92?-96 beds?

If you have the money, I would go diamond plate, I think it looks sick.

DeeZee makes both diamond plate and painted black diamond plate.

I like the looks of the diamond plate, but my dad probably wouldn't. he prefers maximum functionality with minimum flashiness.

I have had plastic ones on my truck for more than 10 years and have had no problems. They install with 3M tape and are very durable. They have not faded and you can install a tool box or top over them with no issues. Look like the newer truck bed caps. I love them.

I installed a set of Dee Zee black diamond plate bedrail caps with a stainless tailgate cap on my '87 f250. I really dig the looks of it. Cheapest places I found were ourdealsrock.net & autopartswarehouse.com. Tony

Well here is a picture of mine, on a 95 truck, same bed style as the truck your mentioning, and yes its diamond plating, not the flashiest stuff but it protects the bed rails...and yes I did have a tool box mounted on the bed, and now will be putting the topper on soon (i think) for winter...
