96 F150 - Got new Stereo - not pleased w/bass - subwoofer suggestions?
All,
recently installed Sony in-dash. Bought Sony 3-way-front and clarion 2-way-rear spkrs.
Speakers are properly phased but bass is weak.
Anyone know who sells a bass cabinet that will fit behind the seats in a standard cab?
Don't need 10" woofers witha 300 watt amp. Some 8 " with a little amp should provide that extra LITTLE umph.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Greg

I have an extended cab, and a bazooka tube fits nicely between the front and rear seat. The tub should be near the walls to help reflect the sound, but I put mine in the center so that people can still sit in the back seat on either side of the speaker. You can get a built in amp in the bazooka otherwise you will have to buy a seprate amp and placed it under the seat. My system sounds great.
by the way, where did you place the tweeters on those front speakers?

I know you said you don't need 10's, but I have an 82 standard cab with 10" Kickers pushed by a Rockford Fosgate amp. It sounds real good, but doesn't hit very hard. Most stereo shops should be able to get most subs in a truckbox configuration.

Thanks for the updates. As it turns out, I did go to a local stereo shop for help. They had a cabinet that fit behind the passenger seat. I do have to keep the seat forward one click but that isn't so much of an issue on the passenger side. I got a 10" kicker bass with a 100 watt bridged amp(smallest that they had). Fortunately the Sony in-Dash has that new D-Bass feature. I can go with no sub-woofer or three levels (Normal Bass, A bit too much Bass, and "Plain Old Retarded" Bass). The second level is more than adequate for the likes of ZZ Top. I waas pleasantly surprised at how the subwoofer lets me get pretty good tunes without having to crank it up. I haven't gone above 40% (usually at 30% volume) since I put in the sub-woofer. Prior to that, I had been runnung at 60% volume pretty regurlary trying to overcome the weak bass and general noise of the truck. 60% volume and it sounded like crap. Much happier now, would recommend this upgrade. By the way, cabinet, speaker and amp installed with tax @$275.

I am in the process of building my system now : kenwood cdplayer...6 1/2 polk audio in doors and 5x7 polk audio in rear side . i took out the middle seat and built a custom box/ console and installed a 10" jl audio sub in it got two 250 watt pioneer amps and a lil crossover. ( it's thumpin ) the catch for the trucks I have found out is to build a band pass box and fire the holes up. you"ll get great bass. when I'm thru customizing I'll put up a pick O.K.

:P I have standard cab 88 F-150. I use 2 rockford fosgate 8's, fairly cheap. They are in seperate mtx ported truck boxes, powered by a 300 watt jensen bridged. They sound good, but it's funny, I get a lot better bass when I open my doors That's odd Anyhow it's a great setup, I use a Sony head unit. I used to have 2 sony xplod 8's but I traded my brother for the rockford fosgates, the Sonys were higher powered but I couldn't bridge them. My brother has a 350 kenwood amp, and he can't bridge them there either. So I don't know. They were nice, but my personal preference is the Fosgates. Definetly do not go for thump or something like that. They suck. Hope I could help.;-)

pickups, espically sound louder when the windows are open and/or doors. reason is more room for the bass wave to travel. i have a Infinity Perfect 12" in a sealed box (temp box) with a 450W RF amp and it'll knock the wind outta ya . i used to have 2 pioneer 12"s and a jensen 400w amp and loved it but i needed more low end.

ok well yall don't laugh at my setup, i got everyhing but the amp for free. i have a 13 yearold "The Crunch" 12 sub in a homemade box with a bridged 400 watt amp. i've got a sony deck(50x4, not an xplod) and 6 1/2" kenwood 2way door speakers, it thumps pretty good but my old worn out truck rattles(the back window) when you turn it up.
