Great Video! You are doing a really nice job there. I would go with the 7.50 x 17s. I got some from Miller Tire in Ohio. They advertise in truck and tractor literature. They fill the wheel wells better and up your gearing a surprising amount. Mine came on ups with no problems and weren't too expensive.

FINALLY was able to get my front (2) drums on today. I took the hub apart and regreased the hell out if them and they were in really good shape - and threw everything back together and now those are marked off the checklist.

Rebuilt the carb from (2) carbs and put it on and fired the truck up (again). Now I need to finalize a few things on the engine and then it is all about the body work and paint (after I get tires and tubes of course....)

OK - been 'busy' for a bit working on my garage on Route 66 in Kansas and my job, so the truck took a slight back seat for the moment.

I had to buy a new fuel pump and installed it today as well as took the drive shaft to the shop to get extended 1/2" (the last guy cut too much off) and we were able to make sure there were no oil leaks and filled the radiator up and made sure nothing was leaking (which is did not!).

After letting the girl run for about 15-20 minutes, we tightened the head bolts down to proper torque (again). So today was a pretty good day.

I will be away from the truck for the next 3 weeks so by that time I will get the drive shaft back AND I need to get the starter rebuilt and installed as I am 'borrowing' one from a 51 Sunliner. Next is to make sure the tranny is working properly and then work on getting the exhaust in.

Question: I have the connecting pipe from one exhaust manifold to the other - so there is only (1) exhaust port on the manifold (passengers side), is there something I can order online which runs from the exhaust manifold all the way thru the muffler (I need a muffler) and then out the back?

Was able to stop out and work on the truck a little today.
We filled the trans up with gear oil and put a gasket on the top plate of it.
Got my drive shaft back (had to extend it 1/2") and installed that without a problem and slid the cab up where it sits on the frame.

Ordered the cab to frame mounting kits and STILL have to get tires for this thing....

Sharing my time on the truck and my neon sign for the garage I have on Route 66 in Kansas....

Not enough time in the weekends!!

Was able to get a little more done on the truck - this time I hit the bottom of the cab with some POR-15. I think I will throw a second coat on later this week for good measures....

As I recall, if you don't re-coat within a couple of hours, you have to scuff the first coat... might not be worth the trouble.

I put a thick enough coat on the first time - so a second may not be necessary if I have to go thru all of that...

Moe, yes! We will have to get together in a few weeks....

Took a little time today (at Christmas of all things) to work on the truck. Was able to get the rear cab mounts on the cab and the frame - and talk about a fight!!

But, they are in and I will go back out there on Sunday and put in the other mounts and the work will continue!!

OK - been a little over a month since I really have done anything substantial and FINALLY I was able to run over and grab the bed for my truck from a guy I have been dealing with for a year.

<a href="http://s230.photobucket.com/user/Eak69/media/49-ford-pickup-51_zpszdlgp1uf.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee258/Eak69/49-ford-pickup-51_zpszdlgp1uf.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 49-ford-pickup-51_zpszdlgp1uf.jpg"/></a>
Donor truck.

The wood floor and the strips which hold down the wood were so gone and rusted and corroded and rotted - they came out within a half hour (used a trusty lock cutter to whiz right through them!)

<a href="http://s230.photobucket.com/user/Eak69/media/49-ford-pickup-52_zpsfriuz6qz.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee258/Eak69/49-ford-pickup-52_zpsfriuz6qz.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 49-ford-pickup-52_zpsfriuz6qz.jpg"/></a>
Floor out of bed.

Seeing this was buried deep into a maze of old cars and trucks and getting out it through the 'front door' might have been a bigger challenge than getting the bed off itself, the owner grabbed his forklift and simply lifted the bed over the fence!

<a href="http://s230.photobucket.com/user/Eak69/media/49-ford-pickup-53_zpszgp19slg.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee258/Eak69/49-ford-pickup-53_zpszgp19slg.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 49-ford-pickup-53_zpszgp19slg.jpg"/></a>
Easy... easy...

Then we loaded it to the back of my buddy's 68 truck and headed back to the shop.

<a href="http://s230.photobucket.com/user/Eak69/media/49-ford-pickup-54_zpsu3y87fra.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee258/Eak69/49-ford-pickup-54_zpsu3y87fra.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 49-ford-pickup-54_zpsu3y87fra.jpg"/></a>
Dual bed pickup.

This one is in a HELLUVA lot better shape than the one which came with the truck.
It will sit for a bit as I am doing the rest of the body work on the cab and STILL trying to get tires.....

You guys in the arid south west kill me! Such good parts just sitting out in the open and not rusting a way! That looks like a good 53-55 truck next to your bed. And your buddies 68..... nice. It is good to see Ford parts hauled by a Ford.

Can't believe it has been 6 months BUT I have spent a good amount of my time working on Route 66 stuff and been 'neglecting' the build. It doesn't help it is Aug and 110 outside so it is hard to work on the truck when heatstroke is your best friend. Will get back out there soon BUT it looks like I might have to stop the project short as I need to focus any free time on my garage in Galena Kansas as that is going under a restoration process as well - truck, historic building, truck, historic building.... what to do...

Front Street Garage on Route 66 in Galena Kansas. My 'across the street neighbor' is the tow truck which was the inspiration for CARS 'Tow Mater'.....
