question to everyone that has efi mani's or headers!
do you guys get a "rice" exhaust note on your trucks?
just curious because my cousin somewhat made "fun" of how it was gonna sound with the headers and exhaust! Its weird because when it was stock i never got a "rice" tone with my exhaust. (Flowmaster Original 40 series SI/DO not cat)
I guess we will wait and see!

"rice" is somewhat subjective. All sound is in the ear of the beholder. An I4 sounds like an I4...a V4 sounds like a V4...and that goes right on up through all engine configurations. Can't make them sound like something they aren't. Some exhaust system configurations may sound more "ricer" than others but in the end, an I6 is going to sound like an I6.

I have found that the EFI 300's do sound somewhat ricey if they have a small exhaust leak or something, but not if they have a custom exhaust system that is meant to be loud. For some reason I think the carb engines sound better than EFI even if the carb has EFI manifolds. The EFI trucks still sound good though. My exhaust came loose from my manifold so it was basically open manifold, and it sounded amazing. I didn't even want to get it fixed. It wasn't as loud as I would have thought either(still to loud to be in front of you), but I guess thats what low compression does.
I have noticed that the 300 sounds a little different than most other inline sixes I have heard(mainly Jeep sixes). It seems to be a slight but noticeable difference similar to that between a 460, and a 302.

This don't sound like rice to me... Stock EFI Manifolds, Dual 2" pipes and Thrush Glasspacks. The stock log exhaust on the '86 you have gives it a whole different sound due to its restriction vs. hedders or the split manis. I miss the log on my '86 but it it does feel better on power.

Thrush Mufflers
What was the length on those Thrush mufflers? They sound awesome! I have a set of 24" on a 350 (hold the jokes), with 3" x 18" tips. Love the sound!
Looked him up on Youtube: those were 2" ID x 20" (23" overall) Thrush glasspacks. Interestingly, he used 2" pipes all the way through (causing some thinking on my part)...Wish he would post a vid after he put the tips on. Just thought I would let others know who wanted to know.
